Hello? You play to win the game! You don't play to lose with the fantasy of securing THE pick. You don't watch to see your team lose every week. You don't believe in some sort of magic that even the number one pick will become a competent long term NFL quarterback. The draft has never come with any sort of guarantee - any Jets fan who does not know this by now simply has not been paying attention.
Glenn needs to show he can motivate his team which so far, he's coming up short. If the idea is tanking, Glenn would be wise to make it look good knowing Woody. Benching Fields for a game hopefully gets the point across. There are 30M reasons to play Fields. None of them involve winning games. I guess the question becomes Tank or not. That's on Glenn. Big risk here given Woody being PR conscious. 1-16, 2-15, 3-14 looks better than 0-17.
Attempting to tank would bring about the opposite result. The Jets are so bad at wha they're trying to accomplish, that trying to win is the best tanking strategy that they could come up with. If they actively try to lose games, they will surely end up on some kind of winning streak. That said, tanking should not be an option. Tanking further cements the losing mentality in the organization. This team needs to go out and win...now.
Then continuing to trot Fields out there game after game runs counter to that. Here's a idea. Maybe make Fields a "relief pitcher" of sorts. That is, bring him in late in games IF Tyrod is having problems or injured. Fields sucks as a starter atm. His skillset consists of running the football and throwing checkdowns short of the marker. Helps Tanner get a feel for calling plays as this is his OJT year. Helps the offense get into a groove as the system under Tyrod runs better. It gets Fields more time to learn Tanner's system and it even might net a win on occasion.
One week the Jets will surprise us and and win, but I don't think it's this week... They REALLY need Jermaine Johnson back. I'm not saying fire Mougey, but the depth at edge was GM malpractice. Can we see Eric Watts? I recall him being a playable run defender last year. What they're trotting out now is far from NFL caliber.
Putting McGregor in there every week and de-activating Leonard Taylor makes zero sense. I know Taylor is a DT but I’d rather take a crack at letting him set the edge than McGregor getting blown off the ball and missing tackles in the pursuit drill.
Rather than McGregor... rather than Clemons... rather than Baron... He literally cannot be worse than any of those three guys.
I have decided to devote my Sundays to getting work done outside as long as the weather holds up. It’s not worth it to me to devote time getting pissed off, when I can do something constructive. I will continue to record Jet games, when they are available. Fast forwarding is a much better alternative.
