Very good analysis. He would be perfect if Mike LaFleur was still here. He is not an elite physical talent, but he looks like he’s an elite processor. That’s a great NFL skill but he’s not going to survive in a garbage system that tries to force his skills to band aid shitty play calls.
Seven weeks of college football and still nobody I’d spend a top-5 pick on. Maybe a top-10 pick. Still just a maybe.

I think I’m leaning towards trying to seek out a trade down and accumulate a war chest of picks with the idea of taking a QB in the second round. I think I’m liking Rocco Becht in the second unless he really measures in under 6’0”. You can work in this league at 6’1”. He’s a dawg. He’s played a ton of college football and obviously has good pedigree. But on top of his lineage he also comes from a program that produces smart, tough football players that are well coached. Maiava is probably the best prospect in the draft at this point when factoring in raw physical talent. I’m not sure that you can spend a top 5 pick on someone like Mendoza who is physically limited like he is.
Sounds like a description of Mac Jones. He would be pure garbage in this Jets offense but SF is an ideal scheme fit and makes him look like a competent QB. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Is it crazy to take a different approach and not take a QB with the first pick, trade down for talent, get a hi pot QB on the second round instead. Get rid of fields, sign Cousins or a decent vet for a year and see what this CS can really do. I dont trust them to select, develop and start a rookie QB.
It's not crazy at all. I really don't want to reach for a QB. Let's see how the rest of the College season plays out. But if this is another Kenny Picket draft or our pick is not high enough to get a Stroud level talent or alike, we may need to have a vet for another year. I know it's not ideal, but I would not reach for inferior talent in the 1st round. Hopefully someone high probability emerges though and we will have enough draft munition to get him.
I am always in favor of taking the QB if the QB is worth it at the top. I just don’t think this is going to be that year. The problem is that we probably aren’t going to be the only team that recognizes it’s not the year to take a top QB which makes trading down harder and less valuable. What team picking in the top 10 is going to want to give up the farm to move up? The Browns just drafted two QB’s they’re trying to evaluate. The Titans have the top pick from last year returning. The Dolphins are probably stuck with Tua for at least another year before they finally eat all the dead money after 2026. The Saints are the only team but they just took Shough and I’d guess they don’t see the value in giving up the farm to move up.
Thanks. Very Good points. Unfortunately, most likely we will find ourselves in the terrible position to get a top draft pick the year with a mediocre QB class. Overreaching for a QB that is not worth it is not the answer either. May be a flyer on the second round with a QB with potential but in need of development.
