Yes, but it's a lot of money to have tied up on players who aren't with the team. I know every team has dead cap money so I guess it's just something the gap gurus deal with these days.
It’s just the new norm with the big QB contracts. Russell Wilson, Matt Ryan, Carson Wentz, etc. The Dolphins and Cardinals might do it with Tua and Kyler too. Better to just rip the band-aid off than hang on to mediocrity.
I’m just not sure about Mendoza’s arm strength at the next level. He probably has enough arm, but we are a northeast team with a swirling winds stadium. I’m just having a hard time buying him as a top pick given that he’s somewhat limited athletically and as a thrower.
Watching Simpson today, one thing I like is his pocket presence. He's good at subtly moving to avoid pressure while keeping his eyes downfield.
Arch is very easily one of the worst QB’s in the country. It’s pretty wild to watch considering he was the Heisman favorite at around +250 coming into the year.
I can't tell if Sellers is Cam Newton, Vince Young, or Steve McNair. But watching this Alabama game, I'm leaning towards Cam Newton.
Gutted by the South Carolina loss Sellers was dynamite. Idk part of me thinks we should just draft him and be done with it. You can teach them where to throw but you can’t teach them to be 6’5 and strong as a ox
Also, I won’t judge Simpson by today alone but so maybe someone who watches him more can confirm but while he didn’t play poorly he sure throws A LOT of screen passes and ignoring Ryan Williams, incredible wide receiver is questionable as well but that could be on the staff
Simpson looked exactly like Bryce Young today. Mediocre arm. GREAT pocket presence especially when the protection is awesome. I think he’s a hard pass. Sellers was way more impressive with less today.
I have to strongly disagree with this. Ryan Leaf, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, and JaMarcus Russell are a few examples of MANY that choosing raw athletic talent is a recipe for a bust. You don't a QB who is 6'5" and strong as an ox; you a need a guy who can read defenses, adapt on the fly, get the ball out quickly, and lead the team. I still think Mendoza and Moore are the two most NFL ready QBs this year.
I believe the announcers mentioned that Sellers has gained most of his passing yards on screen passes. Something to be wary of. He's very big and very athletic, no doubt. I'm just wary of any QB where those are the main selling points. Big, athletic QBs tend to fall back on their athleticism to the detriment of their passing. Unathletic guys know they can't fall back on athleticism so they absolutely must be good at passing/processing or they have nothing.
that line of thinking though gets you Josh Rosen over Josh Allen. Or Mitch Trubisky over Pat Mahomes last season Sellers threw downfield over 50% of the time, 5th most among p4 starting quarterbacks. So he threw downfield a lot, he’s honestly better for it, but this year their new coordinator sucks. Finally let him rip yesterday and he delivered nicely on that beautiful TD to Nyck Harbor
