Eh I mean Trey Lance is 6’4”, 230 pounds with a rocket arm that can throw the ball 60 arms flat footed and has a decent throwing motion. I tend to believe him still being in the league means he’s coachable and trying to learn on top of those physical skills. He was way over drafted obviously but the raw skill is there. I don’t think any one wants him here as anything more than maybe a 3 with another veteran, but it wouldn’t be crazy to bring him here. We might get to see him this weekend.
For the 'anti-tank' crowd: Jets' top QB targets if they miss on top tier From the article: Jets have plenty to think about as tank dreams slip away Are Trinidad Chambliss and Cole Payton the only worthwhile options after the “Big 3”? No, they are not. However, if you consider the skill set that head coach Aaron Glenn seems to favor, these two players check most of the boxes: strong arms, strong build, physicality, and the ability to affect the game with their legs. With five games left in the regular season, we will soon find out where the Jets land in the 2026 draft order and which QBs they could have a chance to target. In the years to come, we’ll see if it was the Tankers or the Anti-Tankers who ultimately win out.
I don't think the Jets will bring in another project QB. Any veterans they sign will be proven to some degree, unlike Fields, who was a roll of the dice.
Completely agree on trading down -- there are no QBs worth trading up for this year (even if Moore declares). I think Kyler + part of his salary is unrealistic with how much money we already will be paying QBs next year.
I like Chambliss but he is super inconsistent. Plus I think he'll be gone before we pick in the 4th round
No worries at all. Look, as @Jonathan_Vilma pointed out, Lance is a physical freak. I mean, he can most certainly throw a ball through a wall. That, of course, IS the problem with him. Did I mention my wife is a 49'er fan? I've seen him, both on TV and at training camp. From a physical standpoint he's the ideal. Big, lean, powerful and just...well...you get the picture. But this kid simply doesn't have "it" between the ears. Just another "better physical" version of Zach Wilson. He also has NO touch. And, that, IMO, is something that cannot be taught. You either know how to feather a ball in, when needed, or you don't. Look, if Kyle Shanahan can't get anything out of him I suspect no one can. Just look at what he's done for Garoppalo, Purdy, Jones, Darnold and the list goes on. Oh, another thing, one of the main reasons, outside them getting supremely lucky with Purdy, he was dropped from the 49'ers is that most important ability of all. Availability. Geezzz...the guy couldn't stay on the field. He sure was over drafted. I guess it wouldn't be the worse thing in the world as a practice squad guy but I think he's in a good spot now. If he's smart he stays in San Diego. I mean, he goes from Shanahan to Dallas to Harbaugh. That's two super top-flight QB coaches right there. Shanahan couldn't squeeze anything out of him, maybe Harbaugh can.
Davis Mills from the Texans would be a good QB for next season. Save their bullets for the 2027 season.
Always? KC traded up for Mahomes. Bills traded up for Josh Allen, Ravens traded up up for Lamar. If it's the right guy, it's not a waste.
For those folks who are tossing around Kyler Murray as a potential trade possibility, the Cardinals have shut him down for his foot not healing the way they want. Smoke screen that they are moving on or a real problem that would be a systemic health issue?
They don’t want to play him anymore. Probably similar to Fields being declared out this week with a phantom knee injury for us.
Sadly, the Jets had a chance to select each of them without trading away a single thing. Of course there was a really possibility they would have not been successful.
