Raiders are the biggest threat, for sure. They looked about as bad as we did today. And they are 100% taking a QB.

The Raiders and the Browns are not winning another game this year.

Same reason why people defend all the dumb stuff the Jets do; it's cope.

The Giants play the Raiders and the Titans play the Saints in 2 weeks. Also the Jets play the Saints.

Just have to hope the Giants or Titans lose out. The Raiders are the biggest threat. I think the Raiders arent trying to tank since Pete Carrol might get fired but who knows.

You and I wholly disagree. Guys, like Mendoza, will get chewed up and spit out by NY. Both the media AND the fans. No, Mendoza doesn't strike me as having the fortitude to thrive in that cut throat environment. I could be wrong, it's happened before but I'm going based on decades of experience watching the NY environment destroy guys like this. NY is simply NOT a touchy feely place and never has been. You've got to have major grit to make it there.

Meh I disagree a lot and have been disagreeing about the whole “NY” thing for a long time. There are only two media markets in the NFL that are soft and isolated and that’s Green Bay and where ever the Chargers are.

Every NFL team in the league is under a massive microscope on a national perspective because the NFL is a national league. 100+ million people watch every week whether as fans or a specific team, for fantasy, for gambling, etc. and there are 400 shows on traditional media or online media discussing it.

It’s not like baseball. The pressure of playing for the Yankees is real. The pressure playing at the Garden for the Knicks is real. Very regional sports.

There’s no pressure playing for the Jets and getting questioned by Cimini lol. Not any more than playing for the Saints or Colts in much smaller markets at least.

Whats the other option? Guys that are quiet and stoic like Darnold or Wilson?

It comes down to winning/losing. If he loses he would get chewed up but if he wins he wont get chewed up. Also I view his personality as the opposite. I think he is made for NY. He clearly doesnt care what people think about him and there is no better place to have that attitude than in NY.

I don’t think Mendoza would succeed here. He gets in a dome with talent around him yeah maybe he carves out a decent career.

But here in NY dealing with the weather and decades of futility, nah. I hope we take a safety instead.

Actually I hope we trade everything we have for Burrow more but yeah

Idk. He just beat the best D in the last 20 years in CFB to won’t the Big Ten. He’s legit. Throwing to all transfers.

They scored a whopping 13 points and it’s a good defense but best in 20 years is something I disagree with

There was an article about Mendoza in the NY Times after he won the Heisman. The gist of the article is that he has always been a guy that has had to prove himself. He won the Big 10 title on a team that has traditionally been one of the weaker entries, against a team that has been at the top of the league for a generation or more. In the title game took a vicious hit early in the game, came out for a play, then went right back in. I think that's enough said about his grit and character. And if he should fail, the Jets have enough draft capital that they can try again later. Other teams like the Browns and Titans seem to draft a QB annually. Someone earlier said he reminded them of Pennington. I've always said that if Pennington had a stronger arm, he would have been one of the greats of the game. I think Mendoza could be that Pennington with a stronger arm. I want him.

The sad thing is if the raiders lose to the giants, there’s zero chance we get him unless they rob us of like 4 first round picks. At that point, you might as well get Burrow or truly try and rebuild this roster with multiple trade backs.

unfortunately we won’t be picking first overall and I think he will go first because QBs always do unless they suck. He may not be the next Andrew Luck but he doesn’t suck. If we want him we will have to trade up for him

I agree, and it is really a shame -- Geno is NOT the problem there. The problem is that they have maybe the worst O-line I've ever seen on an NFL team. Geno is getting killed, and whomever they draft is going to get slaughtered.
Should be entertaining, though, since Mendoza's personality is basically the opposite of everything Raiders.
