I'd just try to acquire Burrow instead. We have a decent offensive line that can protect him and he should be able to play for at least 6-7 more seasons.
As we become more involved in the next in a long series of quarterback hunts we should be aware of those who adamantly campaigned for, and continued to make excuses for, guys like Wilson. Many of those guys are no longer with us. It would be a huge undertaking to filter all QB commentary here for even the last five to ten years of that to best determine who was more often on track, who was not even in the ballpark and who actually came closest to actually getting it right most often but maybe that's a task that the dreaded AI can handle since, as with all things quarterback related, the outcome in Jetsland doesn't seem to matter.
Next year once Glenn is done here in NY. Next year we have 3 first rounders and 2 second rounders. I hope that is enough ammo to lure a good HC candidate.
He'd be fun to watch with the Jets, but Burrow is friendly enough with Aaron Rodgers that I think he'd get a pretty good picture of the mess happening at the highest levels... I don't see him agreeing to go to the Jets.
If we have a QB this year that looks promising over the next season, even if we keep Glenn for an extra year, the job will be A LOT more attractive.
So you don't think taking the best QB you can this year without trading up or down and doing the same next year gives a better chance of finding a viable quarterback? Why just delay the inevitable?
I don't like Mendoza or Moore enough my friend. If I did, I would have advocated to pick one of them at 2. But, Glenn is desperate to delay his firing. Woody needs to sell tickets and create buzz around the team. Jets will pick a QB in the 2nd spot and ruin the kid. I will get excited when we have a decent Head Coach in house and I think that will happen after next year.
We debated whether the trade up is worth it, but this is moot now, it really worked out in our favor. We get to keep all others assets. Pretty easy call now if Moore declares, that's two consensus top players, both QBs: Mendoza and Moore. Take the one that the Raiders do not take and that's about it. Really hope Moore declares, and can't wait to watch India-Oregon on Friday.
But why limit yourself to those two? None come with a guarantee. Get the guy the Jets highly rated staff determines to be the best now and again next year; maybe get a couple of later round guys too. Don't force any of them onto the field before they're ready. In the first twenty years since 2000 the top QB pick in the draft turned out to be the BEST quarterback only seven times. Wouldn't you rather win with the third or fourth "rated" guy than lose with the top? Mougey needs to find the right guy, even if he's not in the spotlight. It's better to get booed on Draft night than every Sunday. Remember, the best modern era QB the league has had came from round six. It's not at all about Glenn, it's about getting a QB who will be around for years. Picking one this year and one next year doubles the chances of getting the right guy. BTW - Woodless has proven time and time again that gimmicks, like has been and never was QBs, may have short term results in selling tickets but he's gone to that well too many times. They're not going to tell us but I'd bet that season ticket sales are at an all-time low. The only thing that will sell tickets over the longer term is success - "You play to win the game!" It may take a while or an eternity for that light bulb to go on in the face of the recent decision that now was a good time to raise ticket prices.
