I appreciate all the support guys! Thanks! Just as a little followup, I expect the first players off of my roster (to be potentially replaced) will be McChesney, Cavka, Rashad Washington, Morley, and then Bollinger. Maybe we keep a couple of UDFA and because of the versatility of Teague, leave one of the extra OL players off the roster (prob. Cavka) Unfortunately Nesquik I agree, we are going to be hurting for playmakers but I don't think it will be as dire as maybe you think. This is what I forsee: Running Game: Curtis will come back strong afternot playing the second half of the season. He should pound his way for like 1300 yards but only make like 4.0 ypc. Are best bet for a spark plug in the running game is Leon Washington who at best will be a Tatum Bell type who can hit a homerun on any given play. Maybe, Brad Smith will take a direct snap or run a reverse but I don't think he will do much. Passing Game: Coles is a pretty good wide receiver. I think many of us forget what he can do with a decent QB throwing it to him. Unfortunately we don't know if we have a decent QB. If Pennington is full strength then we are in good shape and who knows what we have with Ramsey in a new offense. McCarreins I'm not as high on, but who knows. I don't expect Brad Smith to take over games, but I think he could be good for like 1 big play a game and that is all we will need if we control the clock with a strong running game and defense. If Brad Smith gets 30 catches and like 400 yards, I will be happy. Defense: Here is the catch of our team. We *should* have a pretty good defense, but with the new scheme it isn't certain if we have enough parts to work and we don't know how fast they can learn it. If D-Rob can get any pressure in the middle and Vilma can shed blockers in the second level I think we have 3 good cover corners and 2 opportunistic safeties who can hopefully cause some turnovers. However, if the new scheme flops or the players can't adjust, we have the potential to have a horrible offense and defense. If we do struggle through the season we at least have several building blocks in place to develop (Strong OL, young QB, sparks at RB and WR, and a growing defense)
dearth is probably gone, i think that brooks will try to be traded, if at the worst probably cut, same goes for hobson, i think he may be a goner and yeah we can sign a few guys to the PS so its not a huge deal i think in the offensive line backup spots are up for grabs so no one's a lock, i think the defensive line spots are up for grabs a bit and the same goes mostly for the entire defense actually most of the 1 team guys are probably locked in, some of the 2nd, but there will be numerous competitions between 2nd team guys trying to move up and others being challenged by fringe players hoping to take their place on the 2nd and 3rd team squads
Nice list - I think we are going to be surprised by the amount of "unkowns" on this year's roster. Those who I think will not be on that list: A Clement S Pouha R Washington B Bollinger - depends on how Pennington looks Look for Alaailefaleula (DT),Blanton(OT),Costanzo(LB) and Bell(DE) to make it.
Do you mean Dave Ball (DE)? If so I strongly considered putting him on over McChesney I actually think Clement has a much better shot of making it then Cavka but I could definately see Blanton on in place of Cavka because he looks like he could be a darn good RT at 6'9" 330. I'm not familiar with the other two players so I left them off but who knows.
Yes, I do mean Ball. I don't know much about the other guys either - just a hunch. I think he's going to get rid of some "dead" wood.
Yeah you are probably right. He has no loyalty to any of these guys but I think Tannenbaum will pressure him to keep certain guys, like Bollinger and Pouha.
The 53 man roster is set before June 1 cuts and training camp? I must have missed something--I thought it was only May but it can't be because a thread like this would be ridiculous in May...
if chad was completely " healed up " ; yes, brooks would be a " goner " . but, w/chad's shoulder status ( unknown ) ; i think brooksie sticks around a while longer . . .
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks that Brooks should be cut. Granted he played behind that depleted o-line last year, but with Ramsey, Pennington and now Clemens, I really see no need for Brooks as a 4th QB
well if pennington cant come back from this injury Brooks is instantly a better QB then Penny, i think thats something people forget. were all keeping our fingers crossed right now, but if we worked in the FO we wouldnt be counting on Penny for shit and would be planning accordingly to his future absence to cover our ass
