Well, the thread is about a safety signing. I think the Jets will have a nice little competition going at safety - Landry, Bush, Allen, Smith, Wilson, etc. And therefore, I am not sure Leonhard will be asked to compete and therefore won't be resigned IMO. The thread also mentions a QB is being brought in to camp. Now we know another QB is also coming in. I have no information beyond that, but I am thinking perhaps McElroy may not be back. McElroy has not time in Sparano's system and no time on the field, so he is essentially a rookie again. That combined with a small frame and radio comments... I don't think he'll make it.
I agree with you on the safety competition... and I'm thinking Leonhard's age and play last season may be a factor. On McElroy, none of the incoming QB's know Sparano's system, so that makes them equal. Also, the fact that McElroy got hurt last season does put him back to the same level as everyone else. I hope, however, that the fact he spoke his mind and was upfront about things in the locker room will not effect the evaluation of him. I admit he should have kept it in-house and everyone on this site has condemned him for it, while praising the vets when they finally spoke up, hmmmmm? I just hope he will be accepted by the team and the coaches, and given a fair evaluation. He is a leader on the field and can take a team, even an NFL team, to a championship and beyond. He has proven that at every level he has played at. I just want to see fairness in the QB competition for the 3rd spot.
Al Dorow has been a troll for most of his time at TGG, but particularly in the last several weeks. He had it coming for a while now, look at his post history. If you want to discuss this further, please PM me or LTJF or any other mod/admin. As for Bush, him signing a contract is worth a post, just because it's a headline. Draft pick signs contract. It's bound to happen, but when it does, it's still worth mentioning, if no one responds, no one responds. I like two things about Bush: 1. He's a cover-guy first at safety, something the Jets lack. 2. He had 6 INTs last season. Jets need to force more turnovers, hopefully he can have a knack to be around the ball kind of like Lowery did in 2010.
Woah, easy there, killer. Let's see him actually play in a regular season NFL game before assuming he's the next coming. I liked him in the pre season last year but that's a bit of an over statement for an unproven player. I still hope we sign Jimmy Leonhard back, just to teach Bush the ropes.
Killer woahing then... It's just that after watching him play at Alabama and seeing first-hand his leadership skills and how he could move the football... just too much enthusiam.
Thanks for posting yourself Al. Please keep in touch. Agree about Jim Leonhard. As for McElroy, yeah he shouldn't have chirped out of class, but I have to think that since Drew Stanton bolted, should McElroy prove his thumb's fully healed and outplays Kinne and Simms that he's not going to get the boot because of a grudge carrying over from last year.
^I definitely agree with that. They let everyone else say whatever they want, why make an exception out of him?
maybe he is fast enough to catch a slow TE like Brent Celek from behind whereas Eric Smith made him look like Usain Bolt in the game against Philly last season
