Cribbs as a punt/kickoff returner and occasional WR is fine by me. I hope this doesn't stop us from acquiring Braylon.
I agree on Lloyd. Would much rather him. I know he didnt reach exceptions in NE, but they are infamous for the lack of WR production outside of Welker. Lloyd has great hands and can get some separation. Worth a shot. Also would check out Nate Washington and his status with the Titans. He could be a Vet on the chopping block that could be a good fit here.
I'd like to see somebody opposite Holmes that would let Kerley stay in the slot role. Hill has a chance to be that guy but if he isn't it'd be nice to have a solid vet there. Holmes is coming off of an injury also and we don't know how effective he'll be.
Bottom line is we need some players at both the TE and WR position. Its good to see that Idzik is staying true to his word and is trying to fill the holes (as it appears). One can only hope Hill can step into a big time role, but part of me highly doubts it.
Unlike last year we can't assume Hill will be ready to step in and play that role. We need depth at WR and now is a good time to load up on some solid vets. Josh Cribbs is a good start. Maybe Cribbs, Braylon and Gates along with the UDFA's can compete for roster spots.
Why bring in so many vet receivers to compete for roster spots? I can see Cribbs because he would play special teams primarily but Gates and Edwards, no thanks. All they'd do is take reps away from our young guys in training camp. And with practice time limited those reps are needed for development. The idea of bringing in vet players is good if you have a one or two year window for a super bowl, but this team is nowhere near that. I'd rather see young udfa fighting for roster spots that have potential upsides to their careers after this season than a bunch of aging vets trying to prove that they have one more solid season left in the tank.
Cribbs I see more as a all-purpose KR/PR type acquisition. If he's a true WR it's likely as the #4 or 5. The legit WR I want the Jets to bring in is Ramses Barden. Barden is big strong, tough & runs good routes. He lacks an element of explosion to his game but could be the sturdy route runner that does all the dirty work from 12 & in as well as the red zone. Holmes/Kerley/ Hill ---------------------- Barden/Cribs/Gates That right there would not be a horrid looking WR corps.Of the bottom 3 none are complete players..however they all bring something unique to the offense.
Cribbs is a playmaker with the ball in his hands and that is something idzik covets. I didn't think we would go after him due to cap space but if we can get him on the cheap I think his playmaking ability can even challenge Hill for some time, as hill hasn't lit any fires yet. Idzik preached competition and I think we are going to have a lot of guys with potential have a chance. Cribbs is dangerous in the wildcat (unlike Tebow) and is one of the best pr/kr in the league I would love this move major upgrade to our offense.
i wouldnt say mck is an auto cut,but this would produce the competition idzick has been preaching. mcknight is on notice, his spot is open
if i remember correctly this kid was coming in to his own as an all purpose guy. kick returner, improving wr and gadget type guy... eric metcalf like in cleveland. he was the guy who got his entire body exploded by harrison a few years ago, was that his demise? all i know is that instead of continuing to get better he kind of disappeared.
Gates is a young receiver that played better as the season went on last year, he's worth bringing back, we need veteran receivers to help with Geno's development.
Ive wanted this guy all offseason, he is a great multi purpose player and has the kind of speed we lack
