The team chemistry was great last year. When Sanchez srewed up, the team had his back. Now you have some guys at the end of the road that have been leaders on other teams, could screw with what worked. I could give a rat's ass about TJ. It's more the shitty personality's we have added. Edwards is selfish, so is Cromartie,Holmes and JT. Too many mercenaries are not a good thing(see Lito Shepard).Besides overpaying for FA's the skins traded away a ton of picks and brought in over the hill players. If we release Faneca because of money, a lot of our moves don't matter.
That's the key worst comes to worst these guys don't workout and we don't re-sign any of them. When the Redskins make their moves they get stuck with these guys long-term. We can cleanse out team of assholes in one off-season. Not to mention if we decide to go back to being a team that just builds through the draft we could end up with a nice amount of comp picks from these guys.
Jesus...this board got pretty gay in a hurry after the JT signing didn't it? WTF... In all seriousness, I think this team is a long, long way from being the "jetskins." The team is definitely taking risks, but they are minimal. The cost of these risks is next to nothing. I agree there is some age concerns with LT and Taylor, but the other guys we brought in are all still in their prime. Also, the two older guys are simply role players, so the whole age thing is not really a huge concern. We haven't given out any retarded contracts either, so comparing them to the Redskins is ill-advised.
The 1 year contracts is the key. These guys can't afford to be assholes. They need to look like angels, so they can get their big contracts. We also have a good chance of getting the draft picks back through comp picks process. I doubt we'll be able to sign many big FA's with the contracts re-signings we having coming up.
Not even close. The Redskins took guys at the end of their career with one or two years left in the tank and most of their gambles completely backfired due to age and lack of chemistry. Whereas if you look at the Jets skill players on O for example, 7 of the 8 main skill guys are 27 or younger. Not only are the Jets built for this year, we are built for a long run of 4-5 years as long as Tanny keeps bringing in the right guys to surround our core guys. Big difference from the desperation one year and done approach of the Skins.
We didn't sell out our chances by spending too much money and we know how to retain our talented backups, guys like DeVito and Pouha. We're not out there throwing money at the biggest names. We are far from Dan Snyder's teams.
In some circumstances I'd agree, but with next season hanging in doubt as to whether or not there will be a full season of football, or even a partial one, it's not a bad time to take the shot. Especially since we don't even know what the new CBA will bring with it. So i think it's a good time to take a shot. Really the only major old player we've added has been Taylor, and really the only injury prone player we've added has been Poole.
I don't think chemistry will be hurt because you have to look at the role these players are filling. LDT is the back-up running back. Jason Taylor is a situational pass-rusher. Holmes is the third receiver. Cromartie is the only starter and our cornerbacks sucked last year. The players went to the Redskins for the money. These players are coming at or below market value to the Jets. They are here to win. Not to be a star. Not to get paid. But to win.
no because the skins picked up players they thought would come in and dominate but never did. The Jets are bringing in players to upgrade secondary players. Taylor will improve the pass rush that Thomas couldn't bring Cromartie will provide us a better 2nd corner option over Lito and Lowery LT will provide the pass catching/running option that TJ didn't who was just a runner Poole will get involved in more plays and hit some people which Rhodes stopped doing None of these guys have to be all-pro level guys they just have to fit into the system and do their job.
The Redskins under Snyder always appeared to be grasping at straws. The Jets know where their immediate needs are and the difficulty of navigating the Final 8 rules. Other teams players saw the amount of faith Rex has in his players and when the losses mounted no one was ready to swan dive from the Empire State. The Jets still had the swagger that Ryan had infused. Players noticed this and while they didn't role over in the end they could tell there was something the Jets brought to the game that their team didn't possess. The Redskins undoubtedly pissed off a lot of their players when they brought in Haynesworth. The money was way out of whack. The Jets are paying a fair price that the other players can live with. Tannenbaum and the the rest of the front office should be commended for making the most out of what could have been a disastrous situation. Had we waited until the draft to make any moves we certainly would not be in as good of shape as we are. We acquired some guys that need to turn around some aspects of their lives. Hopefully they do. Jason Taylor may have an outstanding season despite his age, for one simple reason: Rex believes in him. The welcoming of the new players by their new teammates is the best step towards the chemistry that some pundits are saying the Jets now lack.
if anyone thinks the Jets are like the Skins, then they haven't been paying attention. The Redskins wish they were the Jets.
No.. How about The Anti-SOJ? Smart signings filling in role player spots and holes. No monster contracts. You guys act like we ever signed Neil O'Donnell or drafted Vernon Gholston..
