Oh, it's definitely better for the players - they finally get a share of the money they've been making for the schools for a hundred years. I wonder how many Namath jerseys Alabama sold back in 1965; I know how much of that Joe got. If Bilas believes the sport itself is better for this, I value his opinion as much as I do mine - I just disagree.

I think NIL is better for some college athletes but damaging to others

I was discussing the transfer portal though.

Bilas actually thinks that’s good for the players, even though almost half the athletes that enter the portal never get another scholarship every year. And that’s a big deal when were thousands of entries, many of which were pushed or forced to enter

NIL and the portal are inextricably connected. They both combine to interrupt the continuity and transition year to year of a team in the recent past, Just a decade or so ago the only big question was would a guy play out his eligibility or bail for the draft.

And soon the question will be, does the 30 year old free agent bail the NFL/NBA and sign with an NCAA team

Only if the NCAA finds itself going to court over its right to limit eligibility in any way. Frankly, I don't care if the NCAA is full of retirees. Perhaps the NFL may need to spend its own money in a much larger way in operating developmental leagues as all the other major American professional sports leagues do.

ill be honest you sound like a bigot in this post, i hope thats not the case but its what it sounds like. they screwed up the way that it all happened but thats because they tried hard to not let it happen until they couldnt anymore. the game hasnt suffered, there are still kids at every level that go to school for 4 years and earn their degree. there are still kids that are only there because they cant enter into the draft until 3 years after they exit high school. and there are kids that make generational wealth for how they play the college game, even though they may never make anything playing the pro game.

it sucks because its new kids almost every year rather than watching a kid continue to develop year over year for 3 or 4 years. but guys like ken swilling ga tech player 88-91 who were great college players who got hurt and didnt make it in the pros would have gotten paid pretty good money for staying for his sr year. instead he got hurt and nobody gave a shit about him.

to me its still a great game, there are still tons of great matchups and now kids who dont fit the bill can go to a lower level and transfer their way up, while guys who didnt have what it took at p4 or even fcs can transfer down and continue to play a game they love.

How so? How do I sound like a bigot? Money always obliterates rationality. I guess I'm alone in expecting my COLLEGE GRADUATES to be able to rub two words together to a point where it keeps me from wanting to throw them back in the 1st grade! Nothing like stuffing a bunch of imbeciles pockets with millions in cash. If that's the case, then I'm a bigot, I guess.
