The player on the list worth keeping is Barrett. He's the Jet's second best corner now after Dyson and he fits very well as a second corner.
Great to see a good discussion going on. My spirits are high after the loss. For the first time in a VERY long time I feel confident about the Jets going into the offseason with the decision making. We have an excellent young core in place and we can start building around that. We have a chance to pick up what could be a premier running back and cornerback with what would amount to 1 pick (for Turner)...still have cap space left over to shore up other spots. I'm really excited for this offseason, more then I ever have been.
isn't he making more money than he's worth? also, is this pendant on Samuel? if we get Samuel, do you think we still need Barrett? i'd say dump him, then let Miller and Dyson compete for the second/third spot. Coleman, another late round CB, and maybe another small-time FA would be nice depth. cheers
Right now the Jets have two corners that I trust not to get burned deep: Dyson and Barrett. Until they can come up with at least one more guy like that they need to keep Barrett. His play down the field yesterday was one of the reasons the Jets stayed in the game in the first half. As to whether or not his salary will make him expendable I really don't know. Mangini is smart enough not to let go of Barrett until he knows who the likely replacement is. He started Miller for the first 6 games before he realized that it was killing him. Then he went back and forth between Coleman and Barrett as he waited for Barrett's nagging injuries to clear up. Finally he settled in to using Barrett and Miller again near the end and they did a pretty good job of holding down the fort.
well i found this and it says that the jets have 26.1 not as great as many people around here are saying but this is still phenominal. here is the link it is off a carolina panthers home news paper sorry cant post the link sorry cant put it as a link since i have been a long time lurker and not a rampant poster well you can still cut and paste to get the info here is everyone up to the jets : 1/San Francisco/$42.1M 2/Buffalo/$39.7M 3/Arizona/$36.7M 4/Tennessee/$36M 5/Cleveland/$33.3M 6/Minnesota/$32.4M 7 (tie)/Jacksonville/$32M 7/St. Louis/$32M 9/New England/$30.4M 10/Cincinnati/$30.2M 11/New Orleans/$29.9M 12/Green Bay/$29.5M 13/New York Jets/$26.1M 14/San Diego/$24.6M
On that list I'd like to see McCareins stay. He's overpaid, but he played pretty good seeing limited time. He could be ok for us. Bobby Hamilton is just a depth guy, Barret is ok although overpaid. Especially if we sign a guy next year, we have too many RB's and Barlow will have to go. Kimo, Dwight and Blaylock are mostly trash.
are you still talking about Dwight? He hasn't had 3 good seasons yet, what makes you think he has 3 good ones left?
Dude. The guy isn't gonna be starting games. He's the kind of guy you bring in on 3rd and long. In the games he was in he looked sharp and made some decent playes for us.
might as well bring in a young speedster to be the 5th WR, one that might have potential to be more. Dwight has NO potential, he is what he is which is a below average WR and a below average PR.
We should bring in someone to be our new #3 reciever but i'd still like to keep Dwight around as our veteran. The guy is much better than you speak of him.
No he is not, he never has been and he wasn't in his brief time with the Jets..At some point in his career he was an above average return man but he has never been anything more than a below average WR..
You really hate the guy don't you. To say that he has never been a decent player shows your bias. Did you watch the games this year? He was a great 3rd down play maker. You didn't bring up him being injured. That's the reason any of the stats you are looking at shows his lows. The guy has a fine chance at being back next season.
Do I hate the guy?? lol, absolutely not. It is just the reality of the situation, the guy had 16 catches in 9 games at 7 ypc. If that is not below average I don't know what is. If you go back and look at his career stats you could possibly find TWO seasons that could be described as anything better than below average. I don't know why we are going back & forth over Dwight, whether he comes back or not won't have much if any impact on our season next year..
