No patience for mediocre guys whining about more money at a time like this. We're not find-tuning a violin here. We're laying cement. Anyone crying, GTFO and bring the new blood in.
ASJ isn't a big loss. There are several good tight ends in the draft that we could target with our two seconds or even our third. Any of the aforementioned players would be a nice pick-up. 1. Mark Andrews Oklahoma 6'5" 253 BIO -- 2 65 -6 Dallas Goedert S Dakota St 6'4" 250 BIO -- 3 66 +45 Mike Gesicki Penn State 6'6" 252 BIO -- 4 100 +68 Hayden Hurst South Carolina 6'5" 253 BIO -- 5 147 +7 Troy Fumagalli Wisconsin
If Leggett is healthy, can stay that way, and has learned how to block, then yes. Until he shows that he is healthy and can stay on the practice field, all bets are off.
Keep in mind ASJ was drunk the first 3 years in the league..I have a feeling he's only gonna get better he reminds me a bit of Mercedes Lewis.
If we draft a TE, fine. When your team has as many holes as the Jets do, I just don't think a smart GM creates more holes going into FA and the draft. If ASJ had asked for $15 million a season, I'd wish him well and could understand Mac letting him walk. Sometimes players get greedy, and you just have to do what you have to do. If the contract figures for his contract with the Jaguars are accurate, that's less than what he was asking for here. Mac obviously insulted ASJ and didn't show him any respect. That's why I don't like the move.
If we signed him for more than that there'd be peeps screaming for Mac's head. I liked him but not a critical loss at this time.
I don't think it is fair to grade Sefarian-Jenkins on his performance last year. He was clearly a pretty good player, but he was barely thrown to in a mediocre offense, at best. I think he has great potential if he had a great QB. Bortles likely is not that, but he should do good in their offense. My problem with ASJ was hearing he wanted $7 million a year. Too much for him. He settled for $5 million with Jacksonville, but that was on him. If he wanted to be a Jet, he would be. I don't blame Mac on this one.
You make it sound like he is a chronic injury prone player. He had one injury which put him on IR That's not enough for me to count him out
I know that there are several good TEs in the draft, and like each of these 4 TE prospects. But with needs at QB where we most likely will have to trade up, chances of getting one of these TEs could be slim. All except Fumigalli could be gone by the 3rd round. Andrews could go in the 1st. How will it look if we can't get a decent TE in the draft? Will you be happy with Tomlinson, Leggett and Gragg? It helps that we probably won't be drafting a RB now unless it's in the lower rounds, but I'm not happy with that move/signing Crowell either. We got him for a great price and he's a good player. I just like Michel, Penny and Guice better. Please understand, I'm not saying that I think that ASJ is all that good. It's not all that bad. It could wind up being a blessing in disguise if we do get one of these 4 above. It could also be a disaster if Leggett stays injured or doesn't develop and we're left with Tomlinson, Gragg and some schlub at TE. I'm also not mad at Mac just because of this move. It's a cumulative thing. If he does trade up and get us one of the top 3 QBs, I'll be a lot happier, but I will be shocked if it happens.
He stayed injured most of his rookie season. He may not have developed much, if any at all. Hopefully, he can and will still develop, but it's expecting a lot from a 5th round draft pick who missed playing his entire rookie season and didn't even practice all that much.
I liked ASJ but this isnt a death sentence if he wants to play with Bortles in JAX instead of Teddy in NY so be it, i liked ASJ alot but he turned his career around here and leaves the second he gets a chance smh. The money seems to be about the same not good riddance but i doubt that he becomes this all world TE in JAX good luck. Eric Ebron is available hes younger is from Jersey and is looking for a home sign him BIG MAC
You made the best post in this thread and nobody noticed. Staffjet, it pisses me off that no one notices you.
NCJets made a valid point about going to a draft with a lot of holes. I was hoping that the Jets closed the gap a little going to the draft finding a particular needs. But before we get upset losing ASJ let’s see what happens with the FA acquisitions and the draft.
Not one mention about who his QB was?? Or how many times he was screwed by the refs on td catches... clowns
