Sorry but I'm racking my brain trying to think of times when he pounded away into the goal line- maybe one comes to mind.

He's been given a real shot and wasn't able to deliver. The fact that Tutt is now seeing time on the first squad should be at least some indication that they CS doesn't have 100% faith in Askew's abilities.

Since we lost Suggs...looks like we keep him and Tutt. I say lets give the guy an actuall shot as a HB....Look at what he did in the Radiers game last year when he got a chance to start at HB...why are you guys so content to throw him away? We know Blaylock cant carry the load if CMART can come back and Houston will need some rest and lets face it washington is a change of pace at this stage in his career (although he reminds me of Warrick Dunn). BJ needs his shot this year

21 Att for 91 Yards is hardly a chance to prove your worth...I agree as a FB NO WAY but the kid can run as a HB....he has a 4.3 YPC

I still think Askew is a gone. I don't dislike him, but he has had 2003, 2004, 2005 and now the 2006 preseason/camp to prove he belongs somewhere. In this time he is still a backup and he is very seldom seen on the field. If he was doing anything good, we would have heard about him. However we haven't.

His blocking is not good. With our RBs and Offensive Line, we need a good blocker at FB. From what I hear Jamar Martin can get it done.

So to me, Jamar Martin is the starter and either Stacy Tutt or Nick Hartigan back him up. They are also both said to be blockers.

Oh by the way, Jamar Martin has a high Run Block rating in Madden... :eek:hmy:

I am not arguing he is a bad fit at FB.....let the guy carry the ball though....ever time he does he gets the job done (only 21 times in his career for 91 yards) so why trade, we have a guy with ability that is unproven....just like any other guy we trade for

I see your point. He was a very good college player and he has a 4.1 YPC average.

Do you know where that YPC came from? They were garbage carries at the end of games where they were either way ahead or way down. If he has any ability to play RB...
    - They wouldn't have tried to acquire Lee Suggs.
    - They wouldn't have gotten Leon Washington in the 4th round this year.
    - The fact that the team had 5 RBs (Not including Askew) that are good enough to be on the roster tells me that Askew is not going to make it.

Hey, it would be a great surprise if he did turn to be a good RB and I'd be happy to see it, but the fact is he had a long time to prove himself and hasn't yet. How much longer do we give him?

Same here. This guy is a weapon that is NOT being used.

Not as much in the running game but use him in the flats, over the Middle etc.

I can guarantee if another team gets him it'll be another Santana situation @ the FB position.
Dude, People use that line in every YPC argument sound ignorant.

YPC is NOT an end of game stat. You think when a Team is ahead at the end of a game and the other team KNOWS the run is comming that they just let them get 5 ypc?

and Just for the record, He was not our RB in garbage time. Also, he was a RB NOT a FB in college.

    All Michigan fans know this.

I agree with you. It would friggin' SUCK if we cut Askew.

Please, he was in Herm's doghouse. Last year Askew powered the Jets on a drive against Oakland he got them all the way down to the one yard line, Herm brought in Houston to score the TD. Herm didn't like Askew.

ASKEW HAS NOT GOTTEN A LEGITIMATE SHOT YET.

The Jets want B.J. Askew to be a fullback, but he still wants to run the ball.
"In my heart, I've been telling myself I can play in the NFL as a tailback," Askew said. "It's been a long two years for me. It's something I battle, internally." He ran for 56 yards on nine carries Sunday, and with RB Curtis Martin out perhaps the Jets should see what he can do.

Don't misunderstand me, I would like to see him succeed and become a good RB for the team. However, I just don't think it will happen.

I think we all agree that he deserves a shot at HB? If you guys like TJ Duckett and Warrick Dunn we have a poor mans equivelent. B.J and Leon.....B.J. just needs a shot
