Billy Butler is hitting .295/.370/.465 with 16 home runs, 73 RBI. He's a terrible defensive first baseman. Mark Teixeira is hitting .248/.345/.515 with 35 home runs, 96 RBI. He's a top 3 defensive first baseman. There's no universe where Butler is on par with Teixeira. Tex is a limited player, but people are insanely critical of him. So what if he's a little overpaid, it's not your money and the Yankees can afford it. He very well may finish with the league lead in home runs and all you can say is "yeah, well he's not as good as Albert Pujols." So? That doesn't mean he can't be a critical part of a championship club.
Apparently you didn't read my post. So yes, my post was correct. Butler actually has a higher OPS+, and in an inferior lineup. If you want to argue with it, you could say Butler is actually a better hitter than Teixeira, which is accurate looking at the last two seasons. He's not a little overpaid. He's very overpaid. He's still a good player, just an extremely overpaid one.
I was at tryouts for my son yesterday and they were playing the game. Everyone was laughing after the 3rd slam. I got on the train last night down 7-1. The final score was just ridiculous in the opposite direction.
