Unfortuantely missed the game again (not on down here).......but read through most of this. We all knew the secondary would be bad, but was it as bad or worse than thought (looking at Dalton's box score, I'd say worse)?

I see the individual reviews/analysis, from you guys but how do they Look OK Collectively as a team? All the "tweets" (that sounds so ghey) under the box score make them sound terrible......

and yes, the only PS game that usually matters is week 3

Ok. Find another team and do us all a favor and never post here again.

I prefer him at safety. Besides that it's too small of a sample size to judge him one way or the other.

Kyle Wilson has gotten worse. Calvin Pryor looked excellent last night. Darrin Walls deserves more PT w/ the first team, AA is not a CB and should be put back at SS.

Stephen Hill though - good catch and a good block. Maybe the only way to get him the ball is to throw the ball high enough so only he can catch it. Going across the middle isn't going to work for this guy. The one time he did go over the middle, he got himself hurt.

Geno was OK - wish we had more opportunities to get the ball down the field. Seems penalties killed us.

Chris Johnson looked ok but was that against the first or second string Bengals defense. He was running into walls the first quarter, etc. I think that Marty is going to have to during the regular season decide on who his playmakers are going to be and give them the majority of the plays. Decker is definitely on that list. Bilal Powell looked very quick. I'd keep Salas over Gates. The penalities have to stop. If Rex likes players who are overaggressive then maybe he should coach the Raiders who are famous for that kind of bleep.

That doesn't excuse the fact Wilson got beat so fast off the LOS playing press. The fact they knew to scheme a double team for Wilson says something as well about Wilson's ability.

False. On that play Wilson was there to cover the quick pass off the line of scrimmage. The safety was supposed to come over the top to stop the long ball. It was a blown coverage by the safety, thus causing Wilson to chase.

I hate Wilson just as much as the next guy, but that play was not his fault.

Yea but if Wilson new to turn his stupid head he might have been able to break up that pass

That was his issue last year. I thought for the most part his decision making was pretty good for a rookie MUCH better than Sanchez as a rookie; note this is coming from an accused Sanchez apologist. However, he was constantly late on his throws waiting for guys to get open rather anticipating. Some of it could have been attributable to the WR talent, or lack there of, he was playing with but he's still showing showing some if this now.

Wilson is slow so he has to try his best and keep up with the offensive player. No way can Wilson look back AND stay with the defender. Surely he would trip and fall.

I agree their mistakes are very different but if the different types of mistake lead to the same turnover rates, what does it really matter that they are different?

I'm not saying it was his fault. I'm saying he got beat immediately at the LOS. You can still get beat playing press when you have help over the top. Didn't know that was a true or false scenario. If that was not a deep throw it would have still been a completion. The WR could have broke the route at anytime before that long throw and be would have been open as Wilson was in a chase position from the start.

Yeah Dixon looked good; very physical. Other guys in the 2nd-3rd team looked good as well (i.e., Walls, Miles, Lankster…etc.). It's hard to really evaluate though considering what they wer going up against.

Disagree here, Although the one drop was pretty brutal, and he probably should have held onto it, The CB did a great job of attacking the football when he hit.

The rest of the game Hill was mauling people and made a great catch on a highly thrown ball in traffic. ( He actually caught the ball above his head! ). I'd say overall sans the drop he played a solid game and has himself pretty well locked into the at least WR#4.

If you watch the all-22 tape you can see there are a number of routes that Hill gets open enough to make a throw in the beginning of the game but Geno seems to be a lot more comfortable throwing to Nelson then anyone else on the field. Seemed as though he was pretty locked in on #86 for a good portion of his snaps.

    Other observations:

Already said here buy Pryor is going to be a beast.

Our 2nd team D-Line is extraordinary, There will be teams waiting to pickup whoever we discard at that level.

Wouldn't surprise me if Wilson gets cut this year, despite our problems with depth at that position. Last nights deep completion is basically a perfect demonstration of what Kyle Wilson's game consists of. Getting beat off the line, Then recovering for the rest of the route, never turning to look for the ball. If he picks his head up when the defense yells "BALL" there.. He walks away with an interception... He never even knew the ball was in there air.

    Also:
The whole first team/second team thing doesn't really concern me all that much. The Bungals announcers made a big stink about Ryan "wanting to see his ones do something so he let thm stay in against our twos" but Ryan clearly stated his 1s would play the whole first half. Had nothing to do with anything the Bengals did. Being preseason, correct me if I'm wrong, We still don't game plan around a specific opponent. We basically just go out and play the game we want to play and it comes down to talent vs talent.. We all know the Bengals have one of the best WR corps in the league. We should not be surprised that our banged up secondary got smoked by their Elite WRs.

Will post more on my re-watch later.

    Side note:
Does Ed Hocules have a son on the bengals? Feel like the calls were pretty one sided all night. Maybe I'm just being biased.. The personal foul against DD for "hitting" Scott when they were down was complete BS. Also there were a number of plays where Vik and Geno received late shots with no call.

I had thought I read that Simms and Boyd would alternate preseason games with the 3's. Simms got game 1 and Boyd game 2.

It may not have been Wilsons fault that the WR got open,.. But he had the position when the ball finally arrived and if he had the ability to turn his head and find the ball he could have easily knocked it down, maybe even picked it off.

Does someone have video of AA's coverage on that play? I watched it online and the feed I had never provided an isolated angle. Many are saying Green pushed off; I'd like to see it. Thanks in advance!
