Omg I thought I was a bit of a darksider but you are the true Darth Vader lmao. But breaking the post down: Rex is an offensive idiot: agreed..hmmmm big mouth idiot who needlessly riles up the opposition. Boyd was his boy and I hoped he would be better but he is not, so yes Phil's kid gets the nod. Our defense will not be top 10: I say we hopefully make it to slot 11 lol Teams will do 300 yard damage against us passing: at this rate with no real CB, yes The secondary sucks (yeppers) and no pressure on QB mostly yes...Andy Dalton was on Vacation back there with an eternity to look. Can't rattle QB with D line: not sure yet Vick at 55% and can run: well said Geno is worst QB in NFL and mistake ridden: He was tagged one of the worst preseason but the lad is out to prove them wrong. I say he shows improvement but will still make some bad mistakes. Running game and short passes are his saving grace. This year will be a bust (maybe...I said 10-6 but I have been a fan for many years and want to expect the best....not prepare for the worst). Do we need a new GM, HC and QB?..IMO yes for first 2 but not sure about Geno ...meh 2-8 at bye week? Please God noooooooooo...
Something we will see going forward is Idzik handing the reigns to a rookie or 2nd yr guy he drafted before bringing in FAs. He's going to draft the most talent he can every year and expect them to contribute. Young, cheap, talented team. He'd rather have Antonio Allen cover the #1 WR on a rookie contract ($1M) than drop $10-$12-$14M on a FA. The only guys he'll break the bank for is his own guys who've earned a 2nd contract....and even then only if there's no rookie talent available to take the position. If this is true, then a solid coaching staff that can develop young guys FAST is essential. Rex won't have a team full of Vet FAs that have already been housebroken and know what to do. Rex will have to develop Rookies to start every year. Hope he's up to it.
Rex has done quite a bit of developing since he's been here. Mo, Douzable, Snacks, Allen, Coples (TBD, but baby steps), Milliner (same). It's development on offense that scares me.
I also believe our quarterbacks don't trust Stephen Hill. All of the reasons have been evident the past 3 seasons. He hasn't really improved any facet of his game.
Probably not too much different unless we traded for a star WR to play next to him and a gunslinger to get him the ball.
Is 10 wins 6 losses "inflated expectations". If you are an NFL team the Coach should ALWAYS tell you that the goal is to make playoffs and a Championship. Ask Geno if this year is pivotal for him..what do you think he will say. Naw forget it I am just out her to make my "improvements". What if trend is down in 2014 ?? Say oh wait it isn't the magic year 2015 ??lmao
I'm really hoping Salas makes the team. But, I also want Hill to have more year as his last chance to prove himself. I think Hill's potential is too great to abandon him just yet. It would really suck if we were the team that reached and developed him, which includes suffering through his growing pains, only to have another team reap the benefits if/when he were to tap into his potential.
This game also gave us this... feel free to use it on twitter, as I have twice already. http://t.co/BQ77D3yyID
Morning Stinky....morning here anyway...let me bring you up to speed....after watching the game again... It actually sounds a lot worse than it was except for the secondary...Wilson specifically. The rest of the guys are serviceable. Wilson has to stay in the slot and never move from that spot...or be gone from the team. One thing is for absolutely certain...Calvin Pryor needs to be on the field 100% of the time in this defense. He is a difference maker and I'll take any rookie mistakes he'll make for the upside he brings. As a team...penalties aside, they did alright against a team considered to be a SB contender. The Bengals announcers, particularly Munoz, are Bengals homers...but I'm sure our guys would have sounded just as bad...having said that, the referee crew did seem to have it out for the Jets. There were a few real questionable calls...especially the personal foul on Demario Davis. Quite a few non-calls as well. The Bengals announcers made a point of noting that the Jets 1st team offense put up more yards in one drive on their vaunted number 3 D than the entire Kansas City 1st team the week before...so from an offensive standpoint...we'll be alright. The special teams looks good as well. Really, outside of the secondary I do not see what everyone is bitching about... I guess I could have asked for a little more push from the D'line as well...but it wasn't ugly...yet again, pre-season game 2! The most positive aspect to come out of this game is two fold...we have a knock down drag out fantastic running game and Geno Smith looks like he is going to be the real deal...he actually looked CALM...I mean....CALM!!! The interception definitely was a communication error because it wasn't an "oops" interception but a laser pass with intent. I think the NY Jets are going to be fine if we can sort out the Secondary. We have to get Miliner back on the field...as far as Patterson is concerned...who cares. I have no faith in him whatsoever...but one of the other guys has GOT to step up. I'm not sure what to do with Allen because that is Pryor's spot in my opinion...if he can continue to progress then.....who knows. I do know this...Idzik BETTER be on the wire for some secondary help. In fact, a few of the Bengals bubble guys looked a hell of a lot better than the depth we have... Let me know if you want to know more....
I agree that Geno looked calm. I really liked what I saw on that play in which his first option wasn't there, so he then went to Salas (looked like a slant) for like a 20 yard gain. That is a very good sign. And I will echo the stuff that's been said about Pryor. He appeared to be playing at different speed; it was awesome to watch. Granted, it was against second-stringers, but when he's with the Defensive ones, he'll also have a shitload of talent in front of him that he doesn't have the benefit of with the twos. I'm really excited about the Louisville Slugger.
Basically when Dalton and the first string Bengals offense was in they crushed the Jets D. And if they had stayed in for the entire first half it would have been no contest. Kind of like that Jets game when Indy took Peyton out for Curtis Painter. As soon as Matt Scott was in the game things starting changing fast.
Keep laughing your ass off. We'll see where we stand at the end of the year and who was right. There's a reason why Idzik didn't go all in on 2014 .
Geno played well. That pick was on the receiver. Other then that he looked good. Read his check downs well and hasn't been forcing a lot of throws. He hasnt looked bad at all so far in the preseason. The secondary obviously hasn't looked good. Expecting Allen to play well at CB though right away just isnt realistic. On the bright side Walls looked pretty good out there. I really think he can be a player for us. I liked what I saw from him last year. Pryor, also definitely stood out.
Did you hear the Ben Gals announcer when Colon came in to defend his bro? He said it was absolutely wrong then they showed the replay and he paused and continued to disregard what was being done to Giacomini http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/0ap3000000379173/Bengals-and-Jets-lose-their-cool
you may be incorrect on that. watch the game again, and see where Pryor was lined up. almost always in the box, with a different safety playing deep. Landry can play either position, but generally has been playing single high safety for us. A position which Pryor was clearly not playing last night anyway. It may change over time, and Pryor may be utilized more in that single high safety role, but its an evolving process which may take awhile. Or they may just keep him as more of a roaming SS if that is what works best. I've been saying all offseason that Landry and Pryor will start week 1. Nothing last night changed my opinion on that (although I was disappointed at Landry's lack of help when Wilson got burnt for the TD).
I agree. I was being sarcastic which I guess you may have picked up on, but not sure. The Jets announcers and the referees also completely ignored what was done to Giacomini.
