I hope Rex makes the right decision in regards to who he starts at safety. Honestly this decision worries me and it reminds me of the time we let Bart Scott play another year too late. Landry knows the system better than any of the safeties on the roster - that's why he's starting. Landry's coverage is below average at best. Why do people act as though Pryor can't play FS either? He has excellent side-line to side-line speed. To be honest, you aren't losing anything starting Pryor at FS and Antonio Allen at SS. Allen plays TEs far better than Landry. They are interchangeable also, they have the versatility you want. Rex loves to play 3 safeties sometimes so you may see all 3 out there, but regardless the potential to be dynamic is with Pryor and Allen.
There's a very good chance we'll see more 3 S sets, especially with our CB's blowing. With Landry we'll have at least one experienced guy out there in the secondary, and we may need to rely on that in the beginning. Landry's range is not all that impressive, and he'd be best at more of a SS role. But he's experienced, can call the secondary, and can/has played both positions in this system. He's a good bridge vet to have back there right now. How Pryor fits best is still TBD. I think he has the potential to play either S role, but there is a learning curve. If he starts blowing it up at SS like last night, they may just keep him there and play a bit of a Troy Polamalu role moving him around. nothing wrong with that. I don't think Rex played Bart Scott a year too long either. He pulled him off Nickel and Dime packages the last couple years, and frankly there was no one better on the roster to handle 1st and 2nd down at the time.
Geno's mistakes are those of a rookie variety. Sanchez makes same mistakes in his 5th year. So, yeah, Sanchez's mistakes are not fixable because you can't fix stupid.
Bullshit. Sanchez>Smith. Never gonna be different...oh, here's the news out of philly. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...e-insurance-the-eagles-desperately-need-at-qb Sanchez was never the issue. Schottenheimer was, Wake me when Smith wins four playoff games.
I think with the right coaching , Sanchez can excel. He's looked pretty good in pre-season games I've seen. To make comparisons with Geno at this point is just inane. Yeah, wake me when Geno leads the team to the playoffs.
So news out of Philli that they have no problem with Sanchez as a backup QB is proof that Sanchez > Smith... Whatever works for you
The poise Geno showed last night in his 14 pass attempts was more than I ever saw from Sanchez in 3 years. You can keep living under that rock though. The whole "it's Schotty" thing died when Sanchez was even worse without Schotty there.
Thread title is "bengals game impressions" subject has shifted to sanchez. wonder who showed up to cause that?
Yes, but i think that's specific to Sanchez. Sanchez made stupid mistakes (Short checkdown overthrows/Screen passes to lineman/Constantly fumbling/Throwing into coverage) and he never corrected them. Year after year he didn't improve..>Sanchez just isn't a guy who can fix those things...it's inherent in his gameplay. We've already seen Geno fix stupid errors, but I've rarely seen him throw into coverage. Usually his INTs are communication breakdowns or when he was throwing blind slants and screens. You can already see him double checking his hot routes before passing....I don't remember Sanchez improving at all... Every year Sanchez had rookie mistakes....Geno was allowed to make rookie mistakes...as long as he fixes them. I know it's preseason, but I've seen him react different than last year on certain plays and react faster on his progressions.
I'm not sure things are as bad as you portray them, but certainly understand your frustration. I don't like Rex at all. I think that he's stupid and that the team won't win jack as long as he's around. He was chuckling about and liked the over physicality last night. He's undisciplined and obviously doesn't understand that those kinds of things kill you and cause you to lose games. I've not been a fan of Woody's either, but I haven't totally given up on him. I think it's way too early to give up on Idzik. He did a great job of cleaning up the cap, has reigned Rex in, and didn't panic or overpay during FA. I think the way he handled FA this year was right. He didn't overpay for players that weren't good fits or who were unlikely to earn their big contracts and wind up burdening the team's salary cap. In his actions, he also didn't irrationally go "all in" on this season, when realistically, the Jets are probably a couple of years away. He stuck to his guns of building the right way. Just one question..."Who is Eugene?"
