Dont forget you guys also played the Kerry Collins lead Titans and had the luxury of playing the Bears and Colts at the Meadowlands!hmy:
Even if the Jets and Bills are both 8-8 teams, how does Buffalo have more upside? I think the Jets are headed in the right direction and the Bills are lost in the woods. And by the way Losman BLOWS.
Last year has nothing to do with Mr. Mathews argument and it's foolish to discuss. Mathews is trying to prove that the Bills are better than the Jets by looking at last year? That's a horrible and ignorant strategy. There are so many different variables which your failing to look at which occur in any given football season (most importantly, injuries) but none of them apply to THIS year. And when it comes down to it, the only real tangible measurement of ALL of those variables combined is W's and L's. And we had more W's. Make as many excuses as ya want but that's the truth. I think, like every year, the jets and the bills are going to play each other tough. But what annoys me is ignorant fans and sports columnists who use cheap arguements and homerism to make their points.
Last 8 games Losman had 12 TD's and 8 INT's Chad had 8TD's and 8INT's. Buffalo should not be over looked. They beat the crap out of us in our building in a most win situation for our team.
If you look at the seasons that Losman and Evans had last year and didn't know who they had played for you'd think their team probably went 9-7 or maybe 10-6. The weak link was McGahee, who despite destroying the Jets still wound up with less than 1,000 yards and under 4.0 ypc. McGahee's numbers vs the Jets: 42 carries for 275 yards (6.5 ypc) and his two longest runs of the year at 57 and 32 yards. Against everybody else: 217 carries for 715 yards (3.3 ypc) and no run longer than 30. If Lynch is just a small upgrade on McGahee, and I think he's a huge upgrade personally, the Bills offense will be scary next year. The line is still iffy but there's no question at all that Losman, Evans and Lynch could be a trio.
I don't really think we are really a top 5 team in the AFC or anything like that...and I also believe we overachieved quite a bit last season. W/ that said, I see alot fewer holes, and alot more playmakers on the jets roster than on Buffalo's.
AFC Top 5 right now: 1. Indianapolis 2. New England 3. San Diego 4. Baltimore 5. ??? Could be Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Denver, Jacksonville or the Jets.
It should just start snowing in Buffalo around mid-November and not stop until the end of March with no let ups.
Losman's QB Rating in those last 8 games: 3 games under 70 2 games under 90 2 games over 140* * He threw less than 20 passes in both of those games Not saying that Chad did better. just pointing out Losman is really not that good. The buffalo D is what won those games .
When Buffalo makes it to the Playoffs, then we will have something to talk about....same story different year since 99'
It is ridiculous to say that the Jets are overrated. I think we will be a better team this year than last year. The only caveat is we do have a much tougher schedule. Getting to the playoffs this year will not be easy at all. I will not make any predictions yet; it is too early. I do not have any problem saying the Bills are an improved team. However, the variance in strength of schedule last year was because they had a better record than us in 2005. They did not make the playoffs last year either. Theoretically, if their team was on the right track, they should have done better than us last year, but did not. Their schedule is probably nearly as hard as ours this year, so we will see.
The thing you have to remember about the Bills and the Jets last year is that not including their two games against each other the Bills played 6 games against playoff teams (New England x2, San Diego, Chicago, Baltimore, Indianapolis) and the Jets played 4 games against playoff teams (New England x2, Chicago, Indianapolis.) If you don't think getting the Raiders instead of the Chargers and the Browns instead of the Ravens was a big deal then you don't understand football. Admittedly the Jets lost to the Browns anyway, but that doesn't change the fact that the Bills schedule was a LOT tougher for just a two game difference. They played the two best records in the AFC instead of the two worst. Now throw in the fact that the Bills were only 16 pts worse on offense and defense than the Jets over a 16 game season and that they split against the Jets and it's pretty easy to see why some people would consider the two teams to be in the ballpark. Next year the schedule is pretty even with the Jets getting Kansas City and Tennessee and the Bills getting Denver and Jacksonville, although the Bills are still on the short end of the stick in my opinion because I see the Chiefs as a walking disaster area next year and the Broncos as a big revival team.
bottom line: no willis McGahee, no Bills win. The man killed us every time. Or maybe I should say, no Willis and no Travis henry.
Every game we lost last year featured dominating rushing performances by the other team. Many of the wins did too.
??? The Jets finished 10-6 if they had drawn the Chargers and Ravens they most likely would have been 8-8. The Bills finished 7-9 if they had drawn the Raiders and Browns they most likely finish 9-7, 8-8 at worst. How do the Jets still finish ahead? If Miami gets Green, the Jets will be fighting the Bills to stay out of the AFC East basement, IMHO. Mangini Magic goes up in flames this year due to the strength of schedule. 8-8 at BEST this season while still becoming a stronger team.
I'm going to take strong issue with your belief that the Dolphins have any realistic chance to avoid the AFC East cellar this season. It would take extreme collapses on the Jets and Bills part to let Miami win the 7 games they need to guarantee getting out of the cellar. Not going to happen without a slew of injuries. Trent Green is a trap of the worst kind for the Dolphins, being a choice a team would make to try to eke out one more good season before they rebuild. The problem of course is that neither he nor they did all that much last season and there's no reason to believe that marrying the two is going to bring back any old magic. I look forward to them trading for him and cementing their role as AFC cellardwellers for the forseeable future. If they traded anything of value for Kendall it would just be icing on the cake. Bad teams make bad decisions all the time. That's why they are bad.
