Shouldn't CHargers fans know by now that the regular season means nothing when it comes to the playoffs?
you can feel however you want, which includes way underestimating the Jets...all that matters is the result on sunday and it could go either way
The hottest and hungriest team going into the playoffs is the most dangerous, not the ones who sat around for 2 weeks admiring their offensive passing stats.
Not for nothing guy's but if the Jets won 11 straight games, would we be worried about a Wild-Card team? I think not.
I think we would if we had a history of building up high expectations, and not coming close to realizing them.....oh wait.........sorry I started that remark forgetting what team I root for.. Anyway the chargers do have a history of shitting the bed. In no way should they overlook a hot team who's top strength is the ability to shut down their "high powered offense"
If we were Charger fans I can't imagine us taking a much different stance than they are. Some of them have some respect for our Defense, Revis and our running game. But truly, this game will be the biggest challenge for us this season yet. The Chargers have a lot of weapons on offense and they are one of the hot teams going into the playoffs. I like our teams chances because we tend to play up to our competition and we do have some good strong points, but the Chargers should be the likely favorite in this matchup.
Do your research. Chargers games blacked out this year = 0 Anyway, whatever any of you guys say, this will be a great game. You do match up extremely well against us. We are both one dimensional teams, and even though its the passing game that obviously wins championships, you shut down the pass a lot better than we stop the run. Revis will shut down Jackson like he has to every reciever he has played, but we have an outstanding No. 2 reciever and arguably the best TE in the league, as well as a great screen game with 2 great recievers out of the backfield. The game will be decided with your front 7 against out O-line, if you can't get to RIvers quickly, he will shred even the best pass D's. I am very worried about this game to be quite honest, and I think you guys have every chance at beating us. Having said that, I think you will have to play quite a bit better than you did against the Bengals in order to do so. Good luck.
Holy crap a mote of sanity from a Chargers fan. I don't mean to offend you, but after reading the threads on the Chargers forums I was beginning to think stupid Chargers fans were as common as manic depressive Jets fans. In case you're unfamiliar, that's pretty much all of us. I have to disagree on the passing game winning championships, though. The talking heads have been declaring a new pass driven NFL this post-season, but I just don't buy it. Passing superiority in the post season would have made the Cards Superbowl champs last year, and yet, I don't remember it quite happening like that. Why everyone is declaring this year the dawning of the era of the passing game is beyond me, because no one ever said that running games and defenses got you to the post-season - They just said it won for you once you were there. We all saw the Ravens shred the Pats earlier today with defense and a run game. We saw the Bengals' only chance against the Jets coming through Benson running wild. We saw Romo have a big game - On the back of Felix Jones' 16-148-1td performance. The Eagles couldn't run the ball and couldn't maintain drives, only running 18 offensive plays in the first half, with Dallas racking up 27 points in one quarter. Even as I'm typing this, look at what's happening in the GB-ARI game. The Pack is turning the ball over. Arizona is using smart short passes and using Beanie Wells to convert third downs. Nothing has changed. If you want to win in the post-season, you: (1) Take care of the football. (2) Play good defense. (3) Run the ball with authority. The Chargers may be the better team, but like Indy and Arizona, they are built for the regular season. Will they beat the Jets? Maybe. The chances that they survive both the Jets and the Ravens, however, are slim to none. The best thing a Chargers fan can do is pray to whatever they believe in that the Colts survive the Ravens, because the Chargers can out-muscle the Colts at every level of the game and that will give them the best shot at a Superbowl berth. The Chargers playing the Ravens following the Jets does not. The teams that have the best chances of being successful this post-season are the same ones you would ever expect. This isn't some brand new NFL where all precedent gets thrown out the window on a whim. The road to the Superbowl in the AFC is through the Jets and the Ravens. In the NFC, it's through the Saints, Cowboys and Vikings. If the Chargers want to beat the Jets, then they'll have to run against the Jets and utilize screens. It isn't as difficult as it sounds when you have a talented running back as Cedric Benson proved. Sproles is good in space and LT at any age is still LT. The Jets corners generally play off their men and the flats are the weakest points of this defense because it is a secondary assignment of the linebackers as opposed to a primary assignment (i.e. sitting in the flat). The Chargers aren't going to win through their wide receivers, especially not through Vincent Jackson considering who is covering him. Kerry Rhodes and Erik Smith took turns jamming Gonzalez in Atlanta with great success (until the last drive where they played off, resulting in him killing the Jets). If Ryan and Pettine know anything, they'll do the same thing to Gates. This means 8 in the box. This means running is that much more difficult for the Chargers, but that screens will be that much more effective. Helping that effort? Donald Strickland is apparently out. He may just be a nickel or dime back to fans unfamiliar with the Jets' defense, but when opposing offenses bring out 3 and 4 wide sets, Strickland comes in and shadows the half back to shut down screens. With him out, the Jets will be especially susceptible to screens. You nailed it. The game will come down to Rivers getting rid of the ball quickly and the Chargers running backs making the Jets linebackers miss in space. When you consider the problems that Bart Scott and Calvin Pace have been having with tackling elusive backs this season, things look better for San Diego. It still isn't a passing league, though.
The Chargers are an excellent team. Hopefully it will be a great game - classic matchup of two old school AFL teams. It would be cool if the teams agreed to wear their throwback Unis.
I lived in San Diego and the Chargers have no real fans, they're all a bunch of faggots. If they win, they go and when they lose they don't. It's pathetic inside too, these Charger trolls would probably be Patriots trolls if they won.
Huh? Now i want tyou to turn off the computer and go home before someone hurts you. You are not making any sense
nope no chargers games were blacked out but the black time had to be extended a few times. Now they anticipated games blacked out http://www.usatoday.com/sports/footb...-tickets_N.htm They also needed a local tv station to buy tickets to the chiefs game (hey they are the chefs) but over all most of the bolt fans I have met have been ok except for the ones that post garbage.
Yeah we had to get an extension a couple of times, but honestly, who wants to spend their hard earned cash watching the Chiefs?
Good post, and thank you. I think like every other team, we see our own forums as perfectly normal, and everyone else's as full of idiots who are over confident. And yes, I don't think I worded my statement very well when I said passing games win championships. What I was getting at is that there is more emphasis on the pass than the run nowadays and a good passing game is more valuable than a good running game - You can't deny that if you guys had the best passing game in the league instead of the best running game, you would be considered favourites for the Superbowl, by far. If you had the Chargers offense on the same team as the Jets D, you would absolutely dominate in the regular season and in the playoffs. Anyway, good point about our running backs making linebackers miss in space, but although like you said, LT is still LT, but he is clearly not what he used to be. He is outstanding at the goal line, but between the 20's he's just an average back now. Sproles however, could run riot in this game, especially as our coaching staff know you blitz in 80% of 3rd down situations. Having said that, its worked well so far, so theres no reason for you to change it. I am familiar with Donald Strickland and know what he can do, so from my point of view, I hope he doesn't play, he is something special.
If that were the case, the run-and-shoot wold be the most prevalent offense in the NFL and Jeff George would have a ring. The Patriots tried to win by throwing it in 2007 and fell to a team with a great running game. Yes, you need to throw the ball to have success in the NFL but the passing game will only take you so far. Take a 3 and out with three passes vs. a 3 and out with three runs and the smartest minds will pick the later. Running the ball burns time off the clock and keeps the opponent's offense off the field. What wins games in the regular season vs. what wins games in the post season are two different things. One dimensional teams get exposed quickly in the playoffs. San Diego delenda est.
