Can we all just collectively stop reading Mehta? Have we all not seen enough of him as a "journalist" to know that he covers the team for one purpose, and one purpose only and that is to create problems, create divide, and make jets fans feel hopeless. Hackenberg has not taken a meaningful snap in his rookie season and we have people writing him off as hopeless and a bust....to me that is asinine and embodies why the Jets have struggled for decades. We have to collectively understand that not every player comes into this league as a star, some develop at different paces, come from varying circumstances in college. Can we all just take a step back and let the kid show us what he's worth next season before we all crucify him? Also, I don't understand how Mehta still has rights to covering this team...If I was Woody Johnson, I would personally make sure he wasn't allowed in the facilities and would send the NYDN a notice that he will be barred from entering the facility and any other hack they have is barred until they get their shit straight. Also, in the odd event that the quotes have come from a reputable source, as in someone within the Jet organization whether that be player, coach, whomever it may be, you fire them, cut them, trade them. You have to make every member of the organization accountable for anything they say or do, run a tight ship, and never be afraid of moving on from a player, no matter who they are. Jets need a culture change, and Bowles and Macc need to undertake that culture change right away.
Why should anyone stop reading simply because they don't like some of the opinion? It seems that most commenting here don't understand the duty of a columnist, that being to offer opinion. While it's true that the print media, in consolidating their staffs have largely contributed to the confusion, there is no reason to expect an essayist to restrict his column to sourced facts. There was a time when a newspaper would cover a team with both a reporting staff and columnists but those days are gone and one must work a bit to separate the wheat from the chaff. The same is true in the electronic media where the same guys reporting scores are forecasting future developments. If any of these guys can get inside information exclusive of the "company line" so much the better; it's unreasonable to expect that kind of stuff to be attributed.
I don't want cheerleaders as beat writers, but Manish is a cancer to the NYJ. His unnamed sources have made quite toxic claims and that is not right
If Hack turns out to be good then taking him in the 2nd will be a genius move. Imagine if we waited and some other team took him in the 3rd, and he turned out to be good. I wonder how many teams wish they had drafted Dak in the 2nd round?
A cancer? Seriously? If a guy makes "toxic claims" what's just "not right" about it? You do want a cheerleader, you just can't admit it.
I personally want a beat writer that talks about the team, I don't want a soap opera beat writer. They have access to game tape videos. Let's talk about some of the young players performances on the field, talk about the draft, so many other things to discuss. That's why a Connor Hughes gets more respect in the Beat Writer world. Even Cimini with his bs at times, puts out good info
He's not a columnist he's a beat reporter. Want to be a columnist, be one and rip the hell out of the team all you want. Gonna be a beat reporter, then have some journalistic integrity and stop making shit up.
Manish is exactly what Cimini was when he was with the NYDN. He wasn't when he started out. A lot of people liked Manish when he was at his previous job (Newark Star Ledger) When he first replaced Cimini, I remember seeing a lot of glowing posts about his articles. Then he started writing differently. The problem isn't Manish, although he comes off like a douche. The problem is that NYDN is hopeless tabloid garbage, and he's reporting exactly how they like it. Abrasive opinionated articles and scores of anonymous sources.
Probably right. Cimini is nowhere near as unbearable as he was at the end of the NYDN tenure at ESPN. Never read any Manish articles pre-DN but I do remember liking him more in the beginning, though that may have been an anyone but Cimini thing at the time.
Hack SUCKS? And isn't it rather obvious the GM is responsible for such a pathetically shitty Draft? Mac drafted fucking Lee and Hack and the Jets were 5-11 this season. Does anyone realize a clear cause/effect scenario when they see one?
i don't think anyone thought this years draft wold propel us into a good team. most rationale people don't look at the incoming draft class for extra wins. if you are depending on a draft pick to save your season you are usually fucked anyway. i will say last years draft class having only one good player this year attributed to the 5-11 record.
Great. That's what you want. If you want to watch channel four instead of two you just hit the remote; if you don't want to read a certain writer's work just don't do it instead of whining about it. You still haven't explained your "cancer" comment or explained what's "not right" about any writers. You wrote that here; the least you could do is back it up with an explanation.
Who says he's a "beat reporter," not a columnist? Who says he's "making shit up?" Give us something specific.
