I'm not sure who the controlling force on media accreditation is in the NFL environment. I suspect that the NFL's position is that the NY Jets must accept the media accreditation of the people who are selected by their news outlets to be reporters. I agree with you that Mehta is essentially a hostile figure in the NY Jet's media environment. He's a troublemaker who occupies the slice of the pie that publishes for people who want to read dirt. It's a sales position designed to differentiate from the other media sources so that it gets enough hits and creates enough revenue to keep going. What I don't know is whether the Jets see Mehta as helpful or not helpful in selling tickets and promoting the team. They could see him as a fairly ineffective troublemaker who if they rousted him somehow from that spot might be replaced by a very effective troublemaker. Even if he costs them ticket sales over the long run he might cost them significantly fewer sales than somebody who was more effective at occupying the magpie niche. It's also possible that they think he promotes sales by letting disgruntled fans have an outlet for their opinions about the team and thereby maintaining their tickets even as the team flopped.
Bullshit! It seems like half the people here want cheerleaders. It's not polite to call someone's baby ugly, but sometimes there's no other way to describe them.
You can replace Manish with Cimini and you'll get the exact complaints people had about Dick when he was with the NYDN. EXACT.
Hmmm I never looked at it from that perspective, to be honest though, if a beat writer is responsible for negative or positive ticket sales then the Jets have much bigger problems. The reason why no one showed up to home games was because the Jets were an absolute shit show. Manish's articles were just icing on the cake to let us know that our 2nd round draft pick is trash before he ever steps on the field in any meaningful capacity. Isn't it nice to have someone remind us that our franchise can't do anything right and any player who may change that is already a lost cause?
Perhaps some may..personally I'm ok with hearing that the Jets had a bad season and welcome criticism because it is the truth. But when I hear someone using anonymous sources to label a QB who hasn't taken a meaningful snap his rookie season then it's pretty clear what that beat writer is trying to achieve.
I have no idea what's pretty clear to you but when a writer uses anonymous sources to tell us what's going on inside the Jets organization It's pretty clear to me that he's trying to let the public know what's really happening there without getting someone fired.
It's pretty clear that he's spineless and has to hide behind "anonymous sources" to throw a 21 year old kid under the bus before he's taken a meaningful snap. Also, how are we supposed to know the use of anonymous sources isn't an easy way out for a "journalist" to peddle their own agenda, and to aggravate, demean, and make Jets fans feel hopeless without having to answer to anyone? But I am not here to make you or anyone else change their mind as to how they perceive the Jets and the people who cover them... people are free to form their own opinions, I personally have seen enough puff pieces and damaging reports using fictitious sources to peddle a same old jets narrative to create buzz and to keep this fanbase and team down from Manish.
Please show us an example of using a fictitious source. Also explain how using an anonymous source makes one spineless and explain how he is throwing a kid under a bus.
When you use anonymous sources it means you can make claims without having anyone real behind that claim. Anonymous sources are an easy out, also look at the negative articles with anonymous sources Manish has written during his tenure covering the Jets. You will find quite a few...
my 2 cents: This off-season build the O-line via FA and Draft Get a true pass rusher Add depth Let Hack and Petty play out next season, either one succeeds or the suck and we jockey for better draft position next year when the QB class is said to be of a better quality.
Oh stop. You have no evidence he has ever made up one scintilla of what he has written. You throw things out there and never back them up. Actually, you're doing exactly what you accuse him of doing and are unable to support any of it. Where's the "spineless?" Where's the "throwing a kid under a bus?"
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...k-against-the-media-beat-writers-not-to-happy http://www.ganggreennation.com/2013/8/27/4662752/keith-olbermann-dismantles-manish-mehta http://nyjetsfans.com/latestnews/manish-mehta-accountability-101/ http://thejetpress.com/2013/05/25/meet-the-new-york-jets-anonymous-source-greg-mcelroy/ There's plenty of more instances that I can post regarding anonymous sources. Not only do I feel that Mehta is a problem, but many other jets fans and media members believe he is. So instead of accusing me of being like Manish, perhaps you should do some research of your own. Like I said, people can believe what they want. What I see in Manish is a beat writer that peddles a SOJ narrative with the use of disgruntled players/employees. Also, from time to time, he just fills in the missing pieces by saying according to anonymous jets official, etc. We aren't going to agree on this so it's ok, just know that people can point out bullshit when they see it, Manish is a bull shit artist and many jets fans, like myself, have called him out on it.
I suppose you're correct, we'll never agree because you don't seem to understand the difference between facts and supposition. You can provide a thousand links of people like yourself making claims about unfair treatment or lies or anonymous sources but you still cannot produce an instance of one of these writers printing falsehoods. Call them out all you want but admit "you got nothin'."
