Either way, it doesn't matter. My point was just that Bradway didn't draft him.

Come on that is a bit much. Robertson has had 3 good games at NT. He sucked and/or was invisible at DT/NT for the other 8. He might not even be the answer at NT. There is no telling yet if he can play at this level consistantly or if this is just a fluke. So let's not annoint him a "top player" just yet. Or run defense still sucks.

We gave him a huge contract and gave up 3 drafts picks (2 2nd, and a late round pick) for this guy. And all we have gotten out of it was one good year and 3 good games at NT. He has been extremely dissappointing the rest of the time. To this point we have not gotten a good return on the investment. So to annoint him a "top player" is overstating it to say the least.

Dewayne started a little slow but he was a scapegoat on D for many people who didn't watch him. he was playing well early in the year and the last 6 weeks or so he has elevated his game and he's getting better eevry week.

if he keeps playing well we'll have 2 very good years and 2 average to and years from him. Not what we expected but not bad either.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. I think even Bradway knew he was over his head as GM in more ways than one, not the least of which was his almost daily commute to the Atlantic City area and the amount of time he wanted to spend with his family, which was a grind for him.

    His position now is ideal.

Guys, give Bradway his props. He had some good drafts when he was here.

PLEASE.... Bradway was never a horrible talent evaluator - What he was horrible at was deal making and moving around a draft as well as being influenced by outside events......

His major problem was that he worked at home and basically worked PART TIME for the Jets.

I agree with most of this. I don't think his cap management was as bad as it looked because of the mess he had to clean up forced some of his hand.

Same with the FA issue. His hands were tied a bit but I agree he didn't bring in great pieces typically though I don't fault him for at least trying. Look at this year's acquisitions and the new regime hasn't really done much better.

Barlow - Can't even beat out a rookie and 2nd year player to be a #1 back. I'm not saying he's bad but he's just not panning out to be much more then a role guy.

Kassel - Haven't seen much of him but he seems like nothing more then solid depth (which to me is similar to some of the guys TB brought it).

Tim Dwight and the LB from the Pats haven't done all that much.

Dyson is the top FA we got and that was a easy one (other then landing him). Clement was a pretty good pick up too.

Before I continue and people start jumping on me, my point is NOT to bash the current regime but to point out that sometimes FA isn't just about getting impact players but role players or to take a chance on someone who might help the team. I think TB did a decent job of that and most of the "bad" ideas were not costly mistakes.

I also add that this shows once again that every coach wins with other regimes players and sometimes it's the change in coaching combine with the system and maturation of players that make the actual difference.

Bradway was an uneven GM, mostly bad. Moreover, most of these decisions he made were based on the cap. We can't give him too much credit. He's quite middle of the road.

He nearly catastrophically mismanaged the Coles situation, misevaluated the talent of Doug Jolley, J. McCareins, and Matt Hatchette, and to make up for the Coles thing, horrendously overpaid for Dewayne Robertson. He gave terrible reward contracts to Curtis Martin and Wayne Chrebet while we were still escaping cap hell for Parcells generous reward contracts, and he had absolutely no taste for negotiations.

Coles was actually Al Groh & Parcells. Bradway was lucky to get Coles back after he let the Skins get him.

Bradway's biggest problem was retaining talent. If was still had Kareem McKenzie manning the right side of our OL and John Abraham rushing the passer I don't think we would be talking about the wild card right now.

Bradway's other problem was taking overly aggressive risks. The Dwayne Robertson trade was still a bad idea as was the McCarrens trade. Also, trading our first rounder for Jolley and Nugent was questionable at best.

For the fourth pick overall (at the expense of Coles, a first rounder, and a fourth rounder) it ain't good.

Bradway should have bit the bullet if necessary. That contract extension hurt us badly.

He was not good in FA. Look at his FA/trade history. Aaron Beasley, Sam Garnes, Reggie Tongue, Steve White, Sam Cowart, Curtis Conway, Matthew Hatchette, gave up a 2nd round pick for Justin McCareins, just to name a few. He made a couple solid moves, like signing Barton, Kendall, and re-aquiring Coles for Moss, but overall his FA/trade history is poor, there's no other way around it.

True, though very few of those "misses" hurt us capwise really and a few of those players aren't as bad as people make them out to be. Conway was never meant to be Coles' replacement and after a slow (very slow) start actually made some very nice plays. He obviously wasn't the answer and was let go.

Garnes had a pretty good season for us his first year I believe and Cowart was never the force he was with the Bills but was a solid LB.

As for JMac, he hasn't truly panned out but he's not as bad as people make him out to be either and was a solid receiver for us the first yearl, once Hackett started throwing the ball to the WRs. He has been beat out by Cotchery (a TB draft choice) but could still be a very productive receive if used properly.

On a separate note, people need to remember with the Jolley trade it wasn't as simple as TB thinking Jolley was our solution at TE and look at the bigger picture that by making the trade we a) moved down a few spots and still ended up with the guy we might have taken with our 1st round pick, b) allowed us to take a ballsy risk and took the top kicker in the draft which was a major need for us, c) got a 6th round pick which I believe turned into Cedric Houston, and d) received an extra 7th round pick that allowed us to move up and get Kerry Rhodes.

Sure Jolley had a rough go of things he also wasn't utilized very well either and if you look at the above that move gave us a starting kicker, a DB with potential (though that potential is slow coming) who is a dynamic kick returner, a possible starting RB, and and possible pro bowl starting safety. Not really all that bad in my book.

Beasley and Garnes were stopgaps and helped us win a division title. Tongue wasn't bad, Cowart was a gamble we lost w/ after farrior declined our better contract offer but hew was still decent and helped us win a division, harchette was a low risk signing- he was signed very next to nothing, mcCareins was our best WR in 2004- he was Chad's go to guy. Steve White was the only awful signing.

Barton was a spectacular move as he was our best player on D in 2004, Kendall was great, he acquired Chad Morton for earthwind Moreland, he signed james Darling, he signed Ben Graham, Donnie Abe was good for us, Josh Evans was a beast in 2002, Damien Robinson had some problems but overall he was a decent player, he signed Brandon Moore and they converted him to Guard, ... His record overall is very good, he took an old tam w/ a few young players to build around and he rebuilt very well. The current team is playing well w/ mostly players TB brought in.

I cannot remember the exact number, but it was too big to swallow. I maintain Bradway did the right thing.

Beasley and Garnes helped the Jets win a division title like Bubba Crosby helped the Yankees win a division title (or for your purposes, like A-Rod  ).

So as you see it, Cotchery (could have 70 catches, 1000 yards this year at current pace, pro-bowl stats), Houston, Rhodes, Vilma and Barton are all good moves. Thomas took too long, Baker is only "serviceable" (name 10 tight ends you would prefer to have starting), and Coles was a Tuna pick (although Bradway could have mortgaged everything to keep him, instead making the smart move and letting him go).

We kill the bad moves, but my point in this thread is that despite all the perceived mis-management of free agents, Bradway gets a big assist if this current team does anything in the playoffs.

Bubba was a backup, those 2 were starters and our D was very good the 2nd half of that year(remember they were a part of the ONLY D to ever shut out peyton manning).

With the cap room we could have had we would have done more.
