I haven't seen it and my tv is permantly on espn, but if it true we would be crazy not to take it and run.
Correct me if I'm wrong but Clayton said that Detroit offered this deal. So to me that is the start of negotiations and we very possibly can come back with say Abe and a 4th.. If they are offering Abe & a Third for #9 than don't be surprised if it ends up Abe & a 4th for #9... Either way this is as no brainer of a trade as they come in the NFL..
We don't need to trade Abe. Right now, we are in the driver's seat. He is our designated franchise player, meaning he goes where we tell him to. If we don't like the deal offered, we walk from the table, and it's no deal. Considering we are under the cap now, we have the resources to retain him. There is the raised value. If they want him, and we can retain him, his value is significantly higher. Everyone is thinking like rabid fans right now, rather than intelligent business men, hence why I am glad we have professionals doing the work for us.
I read somewhere last week that Detroit is 13million+ under the cap right now? Is that accurate? If so, they should be just fine to take Abe's big fat contract demands on.
You didn't answer my question. If the CBA is not extended, you'll find that the deals being offered will be remarkably less than if it is. Simple supply-side economics.
I would just take it and not risk losing it, Abe and a 3rd would be an unbelievable deal. Remember we'll likely get a 3rd round comp. pick from either the Giants or Raiders for McKenzie or Jordan.
As good as Abe and a 3rd for #9 sounds, Abe and a 4th sounds even better. If Detroit is that desperate to have Abe they aren't just gonna say forget about it if we try to negotiate. But if it did come down to a take it or leave it type of offer, than obviously we would have to take it.
