"After this, my guess is that you'll never hear from him again. The greatest trick this DC ever pulled was convincing the world a pass rush doesn't exist. And like that... he's gone. Underground. No one will ever see him again. He becomes a myth. A spook story that GMs tell their head coaches at night. 'Rat on me, and Steve Wilks is coming in'. And no one really believes." "Do you believe in him?" "A wise coach once said, 'I don't believe in God, but I'm afraid of him'. Well, I believe in God. And the only think I'm scared of is a Steve Wilks run defense."
How do you install a "system" 14 games into the season? The best we can hope for is some coherence in the defense on the field instead of the "who's on first?" approach. Glenn and Harris' first job is to stop the bleeding and re-instill confidence in the defense. Looked to me yesterday like they...... quit.
Wilks was up there with Hackett and Gase in terms of inexplicable hires. The guy was one and done at his last 6 (!) jobs. Even the part about Glenn wanting a DC with HC experience never made sense. Wilks has almost no HC experience and you shouldn't want to take advice from a guy who has been bad at every job he's had anyway.
They aren’t changing the system but you can come up with a blitz package or two. Change the play calls so we aren’t getting beat by the exact same play every single 3rd and short. Or really getting beat by the exact same play all game. Every team picks on us in the exact same way, you can change that in a week.
Boys, be prepared for a draft heavily slanted towards a much needed defense. Just saying. I have never seen so many misses on a blitz heavy scheme, be it against the QB or running game. Our safety/LB group is sooo sad right now. The only persons that didn't get that was Wilkes.
Oh how nice of a HC to start helping out a unit with 3 games left that has been struggling for 14 weeks now. Now that's leadership!
Wilks will have plenty of time to think about it over the holidays... With all our picks, most have to be devoted to the defensive rebuild project. Perhaps 1 top tier WR (Tate?). Get the QB in '27 if none are available this year.
This is why he did it, he knew he was going to be fired if he didn’t, Glenn should still be fired, he’s a disaster as a HC. Keep the GM and get another HC in here with all the assets they have.
Again, let Mougey be the shot caller and let Glenn be the HC. I think that's the Org. chart the Jets need to follow at this point.
How about Sherwood and Quincy, they both went from being all over the field and only guys on the team making tackles to absolute fringe players/scrubs, Sherwood is someone we gave 45 million dollars to and he reverted back to scrub under Wilks/Glenn.
Spilled milk at this point. If they can't salvage Sherwood or Williams, write it off and move on. Williams is done here anyway as he's a FA next year. Sherwood otoh, is under contract so maybe he becomes a depth piece instead of a starter. Put his ass on specials until he learns how to tackle again.
Jim would be great. In spite of Payton as the HC, Denver is winning with defense. I would like to see him as a DC. Ideally with another offensive minded HC.
Accountability is real it seems. Look, I like Glenn. But how funny would it be if he took accountability to an extreme level - by resigning at the end of the season? (hope it doesn't happen, but it would be "Jets-level hysterical")
Typical cycle for the Jets - Fire OC, Fire DC, Fire HC, Fire GM. Rinse and repeat. If only we could fire our owner!
Yes don't forget draft a franchise qb bust him, hand out insane contracts to underachievers, rinse and repeat. Woody and than Brick aint going no where we are doomed.
What did it for me was that 30 something yard hospital ball Lawrence threw and the Jets D looked like they were on the subway platform waiting for the F train. F as in Fail, F as in what the fck. What were they thinking about, getting some Chinese take out? Hmm, do I have to put out the garbage in the morning? Is it Recycle? How do you explain that? Speaking of F, Ray Lucas's report cards says F-. Hi, Ray!
