We've been so devoid of talent that our fanbase actually thinks McGuire, Cannon, and Nickerson are anything more than JAGs.

I don't think McGuire is a star but he's a talented player and could be a very productive player with the right system in place. Every team has these guys.

There seems to be a misconception that we need stars at every position. In a league with a hard cap, that's just not possible. We need a few game changers for sure and a lot of solid players who are in a position to succeed.

Darnold had better be. Maye needs to show he can stay on the field.

Yup. For instance, NC fan has mentioned several times that RT could be upgraded.

Sure, he could be, but at what cost for a position that is very low down the totem pole on positions that need to be upgraded.

If we upgrade RT at the expense of center or LT then I'll be pissed.

Literally EVERY position on the team other than maybe SS could be upgraded.

It doesn't mean they should be.

McGuire is a pretty good player and I could see him having 1200 combined yards next year if we right the offense.

I have a feeling he's not going to be here next season.:(

    I hope Sam Darnold.

We need him to step up the way Jamal Adams has this season.

Cannon sucks, I don't care what anyone says, but as Stokes, I mean Rollo indicated, McGuire could be a good weapon out of the back-field. Not out of the stretch for him to get like 500 rushing yards and like 300 to 500 receiving yards and some TDs.

I imagine that there are a bunch of players who hope to break out of the Jets prison and play for a team that actually has a clue and a chance.

Oh, that's not what you meant?

If some posters get their way and we sign Hunt, maybe he breaks out of jail next year! ;):p

Sadly that thought will most likely allow Mac to keep his job and set the team back further.

I thought the premise of the thread was players that are going to break out, not players that are going to be solid?

He had almost 800 yards in 2012. That being said, he’s 30 years old. I don’t think he’s a guy you can say has been held back by this coaching staff. He is what he is.

Nickerson has been terrible when in the field. Not saying he can’t break out but he hasn’t shown much yet, like Herndon and Darnold.

Sam and Herndon are the obvious answers. I do like McGuire as an RB2, Chris Thompson, Austin Ekeler type back (he’s an excellent receiver that isn’t being used properly.) Darryl Roberts has also been excellent this year, it’s absurd they have h playing safety when he’s been arguably the best cb on the team (btw our big signing has been 3rd best)
