The games I've "studied" so far have been the first 3 games of the season, the texans game and the packers game.He was poor to awful in all those games.
Cal = University of California, Berkeley UCLA = University of California, Los Angeles After the first three words, they are completely different, trust me. They are no more similar than SUNY Buffalo and SUNY New Paltz. Not to hijack the thread, but that just irked me. As for Blanton, he seems too tall for a RT, but if he pans out it saves up what should be a day one pick.
This is the first I've heard of a RT being "too tall." How is 6'5 or 6'6 acceptable but 2 more inches and you're out of luck?
I'm no OL guru, but from all I've read over the years, taller RT's tend to have trouble with the bull rush that comes from that side of the line. Generally, they are finesse blockers. Taller lineman also have trouble blowing guys off the line in the running game.
The clear weak link on the Offensive line last year, was Moore. Granted, Clement started slow, but the last 10 games or so of the season he did quite well. Moore seemed to be like a fish out of water, not getting good leverage on his opponent and in turn getting alot of penalities. I have to check, but I believe Moore had about about 8 penalities called against him last year.
I've still to study the rest of the games but I'll be surprised if Clements standard of play improves so that he's actually playing well.In the games I've watched,Moore played better than Clements(with the exception of the NE game where everyone was horrible).Moore's problems seems to be mental, when he makes a mistake it seems to shake him and cause him to make another mistake.Apart from that Moore alright,he doesn't blow guys off the ball but he won't get pushed back into the run lane like Clements will occasionally. He's a pretty efficient at pass blocking as long as he's not going up against a great player.Considering guard isn't as important as tackle I'd say Moore isn't a liability where as Clements is,
We can agree to disagree........IMO, Moore is the liability on the line, not Clement. I've seen all the games last year and Clement was a much more consistent player than Moore.

Fenwyr, I'm sorry I "irked" you, I know they are completely different schools, with the only similarity being that they are part of the California State system. I was just joking, as I had a "brain fart" and typed Cal instead of UCLA. As for a RT being too tall, thats kind of unusual, as mentioned before RT's are generally very big and strong, while LT's are smaller and more agile. Why would you want a smaller agile finesse Tackle blocking a bull rush? In high School and in college we always had a bigger stronger tackle on the right side, as is the case for most NFL teams.
For some reason, this dialogue between fenwyr and KOZ reminded me of that scene from Airplane. Maybe it's the CAL vs. UCLA thing, or the (mis)perception of a tall offensive lineman: Joey: I think you're the greatest, but my dad says you don't work hard enough on defense. And he says that lots of times, you don't even run down court. And that you don't really try... except during the playoffs. Roger Murdock: The hell I don't. LISTEN KID. I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.
You want to longer/taller tackle (finesse guy) on the left side to deal with speed rushers on the QB's blind side. You want to stronger/shorter (fat ass road grader) tackle on the right side to deal with bull rushers and to open running lanes. So yes, LT's are lighter and more agile, but generally longer and taller, where the RT's are generally fatter and stronger. The problem with a tall RT is the bull rushers can get up in under his pads and drive him back. Taller does not always equal bigger & stronger. Think 6'6 310 at LT and 6'3 335 at RT.
