I don't take into account what Miami's kicker did because he missed them. Who cares we won the game. What I do take into account is that we suck. I don't care about the record because when I watch this team I don't see a good football team. That doesn't mean we can't get better or that we won't make the playoffs but right now we suck. When you can't complete 50% of your passes and your defense gives up 50% 3rd down conversions you are not a good football team regardless of what your record is. When your starting RB can't gain 3 freaking yards per carry and your QB is constantly under pressure that he makes bad decisions you are not good. Losing Revis hurts obviously but most NFL teams don't have a CB as good as Cromartie starting. He'd be the #1 on half the teams in the league but here is the #2. Having Revis makes us better but I don't think losing him is as big as everybody makes it out to be.We struggled to stop the run when he was in there and our LB's still couldn't cover shit. I expect the offense to get better once Keller and Hill come back but unless we can run the ball better we're not going to win games. I have no hope for the defense. We'll beat some bad teams but until stops get made on 3rd down we are not going to compeete with the good teams. Now why do we have no depth? Because this team has struck out on nearly every draft pick in the Ryan era and have traded away draft picks like they were Mackey Sasser baseball cards. The jury is still out on this year but considering we cut half of our draft picks already and the team has no quality depth what does that say about the guys we picked? Can you say wasted picks? I think Hill will be really good but there are already questions about Coples and guess what? Exactly what scouts said there would be a problem with. Last year..seems early as well so we can't judge but Wilkerson and Kerley look like the two best players so far. 2010 was an abomination... Kyle Wilson is a Nickel Corner at best, Vlad Worthlesscase, Joe McKnight ST Ace (the best player we got in that draft) Our 3rd and 5th were traded to Cleveland for Edwards who we neglected to resign, 6th to Carolina, 7th was traded away in the Leon Washington deal. We recouped a 5th and drafted John The other guy in Terminator Connor. 2009 Sanchez... not what we should be getting for a top 5 pick, 2nd was traded away for Sanchez, 3rd Shonn Greene, No 4th, no 5th, in the 6th we got Slause. No 7th. The draft issues go back to before Ryan but even in 2008 we whiffed big time on Gholston and Keller was a 1st round guy we traded up for. Keller is good but I wouldn't say 1st round good. We didn't have a 2nd or 3rd round pick and with the 4th we took Dwight Lowery. 5th round... Erik Ainge. 6th... Marcus Henry. 7th Nate Garner. Other then Keller that entire draft was a complete and utter failure in every sense of the word. In 2007 we hit on Revis and Harris.. other then that no 3rd, no 4th, no 5th round picks. 6th round was Jacob Bender, 7th round Chansi Stuckey. This team hasn't had a great draft since 2006 and I think you'll be hardpressed to find a worst draft in the history in the the league then 2008.
This pro-bowl thing is pretty misleading. Since 2009, 11 teams have not drafted a single pro-bowler. Of the 21 teams that have, 16 of those teams have only drafted one so its hardly as though every team is picking multiple pro-bowl caliber players, and nearly half of all the pro-bowl players taken in the 2009 draft to date were top 20 picks, often top 10 picks which is an area where, aside from our Sanchez pick we have not been drafting. Also, the vast majority of pro bowlers are from the 2009 and 2010 drafts and in those drafts we have a total of 7 picks, with only 3 in the first 3 rounds, so its hardly surprising we haven't draft a probowler. Look at the 2011 draft, 5 players from that draft have gone to the pro-bowl so far, including the #1, #2, #4 and #5 picks. New England has 3 pro-bowlers drafted in the time, but one was Devin Mcourty who doesn't look that good now and the other two were Gronk and Hernandez who are clearly good players but have the advantage of having Brady make them look awesome. Interestingly, the best drafting team in that time looks like the Bengals who have drafted 4 pro bowl players! So whilst I do think we haven't drafted very well, I also think that the PB argument is a bit weak.
actually, losing Revis is such a big deal to the Jets because it validates everything you have said. Revis is so good, and most of the defensive talent around him so poor, that his loss impacts our defense far greater than other teams who can lose just a good corner and not have a significant defensive drop off because they have much better defensive players at the other positions.
I agree to an extent but my point was Cromartie is no slouch. Cromartie is probably the 2nd best player on the D and the biggest playmaker actually yeah you are right. When the 2 best player on your D are CB's losing one of them can be a killer.
We need a QB change. Sanchez is killing this team right now. Put in Tebow then people can make a FAIR evaluation of the TEAM Mike Tannenbaum has built.
