Where are all the Idzik apologists ,we needed a veteran cb in free agency and we did nothing. Its gonna be like this all season back and fourth with Millners injurys and its only a matter of time until Patterson is out for season. So glad we didn't bring Revis back

EXACTLY. We should not have picked McDougle to begin with. We should have taken a receiver or packaged the pick to move up and get a receiver. It's totally on Idzik.

If we had to go D in round 1, the clear best pick by far was Denard. Instead we settled for a brittle mediocre db who, surprise- got injured.

Why can't we just pick the blue chip talent and call it a day? It's mind boggling.

Not to mention how he bungled the D R Cromartie situation in free agency

    That boggles my mind.

    You're statement. Not the pick.

Dennard was such a "blue chip" prospect that he was the 3rd CB drafted.

Walls and Lankster are going to see a lot more playing time than expected. With Patterson having a bad showing last week and McDougle being a rookie, I'm not entirely sure that would be the end of the world.

Suggesting McDougle tearing his ACL proves he was a bad pick is pretty stupid, to be frank. Unless there was a corner with steel ligaments that I'm not aware of.

Why is everyone kicking McDougle when he's down? Nobody was criticizing Idzik when he was making plays all training camp and after a good showing Thursday. Now he gets hurt in a Sunday practice and he was a reach, a risk, a mistake?
You want to criticize Idzik for not signing another veteran... I can't argue with that. But let's not throw McDougle under the bus - not hearing of any CBs picked after him making any sort of a splash, anyway.

And for the armchair GMs, Matthews ( who I wanted too) dropped 3 out of 7 targets in his first game and Lee got called out by his coach. These guys are rookies...not all of them are pro ready first year. Hopefully we make do with what we have, McDougle picks up next year where he left off and it's like having an extra pick

Idzik needs to make a move if they actually feel they can win THIS year as they have been saying all camp.

When Indy felt they could win NOW if they could add a CB they went out and paid large for Vonte Davis.

We will see how much faith they have in this team within the next 4/5 weeks.

I would very much like to have every decision pan out but of course it doesn't happen that way. However, what if we got a good vet CB and he had NO injury? What if DRC has an over the top year and proves he is worth 39 Million?? Then Idzik is just penny wise and pound foolish in the long run. As saying goes, you get what you pay for. This is a mantra that an accountant/GM I am afraid does not understand. It is the handwriting on the wall for this League that the better players and realistic Managers can see. Lock up the best players and free agents PERIOD (stop waiting for something better!!!!!!!!!!) Proven vs Unproven commodities etc etc.

. It's too bad DM is out but if the Jets had such wonderful players already on the roster at CB we never would have drafted one. Walls and Dowling have major opportunities now so who knows, maybe something good will happen.

Correct, the offense finally takes charge and takes pressure off defense. Jets win on another field goal he he.

Not for nothing I'd rather be dealing would those kind of rookie issues than about guys not being able to contribute at all.

Yeah I can just imagine how understanding Jet fans would be if we took Matthews and he had 3 drops in our first preseason game.

Im sure the Stephen Hill comparisons wouldn't be too stale by now.

If you were criticizing Idzik before the weekend about CB and are criticizing him after, I don't understand how this is a rallying cry. This could have happened to any of our corners.

If you are criticizing Idizik because of this, I don't know what you expect. Injuries happen. Next man up.

Not fully panicking but it's going to be awfully hard to make the playoffs with a bottom 5 pass offense and pass defense. Sucks about McDougle I thought he was ready to be a key contributor this year, get well soon. Milliner should be ok we have to make sure his ankle is fully healed before he comes back, aggravation to it could kill our season.
We still have plenty of depth in Walls,Lowry, I-Dowling, Patrick.. that said I would be excited if we brought someone in. Asante Samuel could have one decent season left.

    Two questions

What's makes you think our pass offense will be bottom 5 again? Its not like Geno is some stop gap QB who's a finished product. What we will get from him is still an unknown in my opinion.

And why would you think McDougle was ready to be a key contributor this year? He's a rookie. Not projected to be a starter. Depth wise its a loss that hurts but like you said depth isnt really our problem. Our problem is we are thin at the top. Chances are Dexter wasnt going to go straight to the top of the depth chart this season.

Would it make you feel better if instead of McD injured and Milliner & Co are the CBs, we'd have Revis injured and Milliner & Co were our CBs?

How do you figure? Because I've said 4 million times that I love everything Idzik has done except the cornerback situation? How does that translate into wanting him fired along with the best coach we've ever had?

Losing Dex isn't the end of the world, the kid was due to have his ups and downs just like Dee did last year and it takes a while to learn the position. Unfortunately for him he's lost a year. Dee is an issue, if it is a high ankle sprain he's not going to be right until a several games into the season.

Regardless, Rex will have to change his approach this year. The days of sending the house and hoping they get to the QB before he can release the ball are over. Rex had Mevis and Cro, that allowed him to do reckless things. He tried it the other night and got burned. He's smart enough to know he can't do that regularly once the season starts. Its even more important now that guys like Babin, Coples, Davis etc. get the job done in passing situations. The D line is great at stopping the run but they haven't been great imho in pushing he pocket back and getting to the QB, they're good, not great. With a weaker secondary its key that the OLB put the pressure on and likewise that the safeties cover the TE etc. I don't want to see Harris hopelessly chasing someone across the field like he did the other night.

I saw a few of the names mentioned an maybe they are the answer short term but they're older and I'm not sure they can hold up for 16 games. I just hope Patterson can step it up. I haven't checked the other rosters but its doubtful anyone is willing to trade a quality starting CB given that true quality guys aren't on every roster. Chips? With the surplus of DL Ellis is a possibility but it weakens their depth so I'm against using him as a chip for a CB. The only other position of depth is RB and that means either Powell or Richardson. Neither will command Quality starting CB and with Ivory banged up I don't want to see either traded. Ideally keep Richardson and not carry a FB as you know he'll get picked up if the drop him and keep Bohanon.

We get to see this week what the other guys can do (Dowling, Lankster, Walls). They still have bodies in camp and I think between this group Patterson and Dee they can hold the fort for this year. Maybe this is the year we see more of a rotation among CB's to keep fresh legs on the field.
