The fact that he drafted him tells you he thought he was worthy of a 1st rounder. His comments during camp only solidify his scouting and Demards stellar resume. You have not given any football-factual argument for why Pryor is great or Denard is not that good. You're just reaching at this point. CB was a dire need and we did a horrible job of addressing it. Safety was not a dire need. And yes, Pryor's best headhunting hits are totally illegal in the pros. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but the rules in the nfl are slightly different from college.
If he can matchup against WRs on the outside it will make him all that much more valuable. Hybrid guys in Rex's D are invaluable. It could also free up a S spot on the roster for someone like Rontez Miles who has shown some promise in camp.
Their college careers were not on the same level. Pryor was good. Denard was great of not the best. Especially since his play was EXACTLY suited for our system. How much press man coverage did Miliner play in college? None. His team doesn't play press man. Denard was an all-American shadowing the best receivers in the country. You can't survive without cb's. This kid was a stud tailor-made for our D. I just don't get passing on him for Pryor. If you have a need and a stud is there, take him.
Im pretty sure that they are even more strict with headhunting in college, and you can get ejected for targeting...
Dennard was a projected 1st rounder. So of course he was worthy of a 1st round pick. Coaches/GM's and teams in general always speak highly of the guy they draft. The "he was our preference all along" garbage. And I never said he wasnt good. You called him a blue chip prospect which to me means he's a cant miss guy or the undoubtedly best player at his position. So not the case. If it was he would've been selected much higher than he was. And both CB and S were a need for us.
Based on the rulebook http://espn.go.com/college-football...ootball-rule-changes-targeting-lead-ejections
Pryor is still one of the hardest hitting safeties in the league - he's not as dirty as you think. He can be overly aggressive, but I don't think you've seen him play enough in college.
It really does not matter since if your were delusional enough to think we were winning the SB well now those 2 injuries are the nails in our coffin for this year
As I said, you have no football-factual information about either player. You just speculate about what people's motivations are and try to pass that off as substance. If you think Pryor was the better pick then it just confirms we see the game and the Jets very differently.
Brian Costello @BrianCoz Milliner not sure if he'll be ready for Week 1. Said they're not certain if it's a high ankle sprain. Have to let swelling go down 1st #nyj
Football factual information? These guys play 2 different positions. People that are paid to scout these players and make draft picks liked Pryor over Dennard. I'll trust their opinions over my own. Was there any Jet fan that loved the Sheldon Richardson pick? I hated it. And look how that turned out. In fact I didnt love the Wilkerson pick either. So you can spew out all the "football factual information" you want but the truth is you have just as good of an idea as I do about this argument. Dennard could turn into the best CB in history and Pryor could be a total bust and it wouldn't improve your football IQ at all.
I NEVER said he was dirty. I don't think he's dirty at all. He just made hits that will never fly in the NFL.
I watched Pryor play for 2 years because I was watching Bridgewater play. He doesn't play as dirty as many think.
it might just be the better decision to rest Dee until week 2, if he's even ready by week 2. he'll have missed yet another preseason, and may just be a step slow until fully recovered and in football shape. This is a player we were depending on being a rock in the secondary. And the Raider game is one we really need to win, before hitting up that row of potent offenses. Now throw in losing McDougle, who i figured would be starting the second CB spot at some point early in the season. just don't have much faith in Patterson. All reasons i believe we need to stabilize this position by making a move. It was concerning before the injuries. If Milliner struggles with his injury, and Patterson is as bad as he looked against Indy, our season could be derailed. Both guys could turn out fine, but we'd still be thin on depth, and personally i'm not willing to take that risk. Would like to see a vet brought in via a trade.
He's not going out there head-hunting like you said. Again, I think he plays over-aggressive but he's not not going out there trying to take people's heads off. You want to see someone whose hits don't fly? Watch Brandon Meriweather
