Want some facts? Mark Sanchez's career completion percentage: 55.1 Mark Sanchez's 2012 completion percentage: 54.3 Neither of them come close to 64.5%, and even if you wanted to cherry pick Mark's best year, it was 56.7% in 2011. I think the Sanchez trolls are convincing people that 2012 was some huge aberration, when statistically his completion percentage and turnovers were close to his career norms.
So what does competition bring to the table this year? If we want a guy to hold the fort cut Sanchez now. If we want to draft a QB to sit under a veteran for a year or two, cut Sanchez now. This call for competition isn't about improving our QB, it's about dumping Sanchez. I have no issue with moving on or giving him another shot. I just find this idea that competition among previously mediocre QB's to be a solution to the Jets QB position a joke.
garrard was a better qb than sanchez. sanchez still has potential upside but overall garrard is not a bad qb by any means. if he can be healthy there is a good chance he beats out mark for the job and if he is in fact healthy and ready to go the jets will be competitive as a team down the stretch. so this is a good signing.
I don't think anyone is saying this is a solution or competition is a solution. We would all rather have a competition instead of giving Sanchez another shot by default since nobody can hang with him in practice/TC. I think everyone on here understands, we get a shot at a franchise QB next year, or maybe we get lucky and get one late in this year's draft. Nobody thinks this is the long term answer, this is the short term bandaid until we hit a year with great QBs. It happened to us in 2009 when Rex took over. It was a particularly weak QB draft but we went ahead and got Sanchez because we needed a QB and didn't want to stick with Kellen. This year, hopefully we realize that just becasue a position is a need doesn't mean you need to overreach to address it
So start him or bench him but this idea that splitting reps among a bunch of QB's gives us a better QB next year doesn't make any sense.
Jake Steinberg @Steiny31 In other news, the #Jets are interested in QB Jason Campbell according to reports. #nyj
He had 21 turnovers, of which 15 were ints in 2010 (I like to count both fumbles and ints). Mark had 27 turnovers last year, and averages about 24 a year.
I meant with in the 1 - 10 yard and behind the line of scrimmage parameters. I have never seen a quarterback throw so many check down interceptions, and should never happen.
There was an article about this last year: http://deadspin.com/5965609/mark-sa...ack-thats-why-he-shouldnt-try-to-play-it-safe Basically Mark tries to play it safe and still screws up. I looked up the numbers, and he doesn't look too awful, but I didn't get the ratio (ie, his passes throw to turnovers) which would probably tell a different story since QB's like manning throw a lot more. Sanchez 2012 behind the line of scrimmage: 1 1-10 yards: 4 11-20 yards: 7 Garrard 2010 (kind of eerie how similar these are) behind the line of scrimmage: 0 1-10 yards: 4 11-20 yards: 7 Tebow 2011 behind the line of scrimmage: 0 1-10 yards: 1 11-20 yards: 3 Eli Manning 2012 behind the line of scrimmage: 0 1-10 yards: 6 11-20 yards: 6 Drew Brees behind the line of scrimmage: 2 1-10 yards: 4 11-20 yards: 6 Tom Brady behind the line of scrimmage: 1 1-10 yards: 2 11-20 yards: 1 Matt Cassel behind the line of scrimmage: 0 1-10 yards: 5 11-20 yards: 6 Brady Quinn Matt Cassel behind the line of scrimmage: 0 1-10 yards: 3 11-20 yards: 1
Lulz Rich Cimini @RichCimini Garrard: told he will have opportunity to compete for starting job. #Jets
We need some WR's badly, it wont matter who our QB is if we have the same players in place as last year
I like the Garrard signing. If he stays healthy, he can be a good game manager. He won't do wonders but if he limits the turnovers, we will be a competitive team.
We are also intrested in backups Jason Campell and Chase Daniel, How many backup QBS to we plan on signing i mean really. Use the money on something else
Let me see... New OC. Meaning new offense. Probably new starting RB, or at least a new RB in the mix. New guards? Probably at least one. Cumberland starts. Well, not a big change, but he gets more playing time. Holmes returns from injury? Is he up to speed? Hill gets more playing time? Hey, that's not enough in the way of changes and things up in the air! How about a Qb competition?
Did anyone catch Garrard's interview on Lupica earlier? If nothing else, the guy seems like he's going to be a breath of fresh air as far as attitude is concerned. If its up on the website I recommend giving a listen.
Garrard is a thief. He's not looking to play anymore. He's injured. He can't really play football anymore. Basically, he sucks it up, takes drugs for a few months, works out for a team, looks decent, signs a contract, then gets mysteriously injured while taking a dip into his home swimming pool. Bam, he then rehabs and chills out while getting paid for the year.
