I think Jerricho is going to have a huge play in this game. Maybe not a TD, but a big reception in the clutch moments of the game. This guy is becoming a guy you can count on to make a play in th big spots.
Sounds like a good plan. Miami, while they field a strong defense overall, don't have many playmakers in the secondary (8 INTs - 30th in NFL). Less risk of Chad getting picked off on the long ball, unless there's a complete lack of effort by a WR (i.e. McCareins @ GB).
I wanna see the chad that easily aired out 40+ yd bombs against Tennessee in wk 1. I believe he threw 3 40 yd strikes in that game (where the ball actually went 40+ yds in the air), haven't seen him do that in awhile.
Can't really blame him for not doing it as much, the weather was warmer and his arm hadn't gone through a full season yet.
1) Those are air stats. YAC is additional to that. 2) Yes.http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187395/splits/2006
yea thats true....each game the balls sail more and more.... and the recievers have 2 slow down for it
i do like the idea of going deep early, but obviously chad is only going to make the throw if its there. mangini and schottenheimer are smart, and they know that chads on his game right now, and their going to come out throwing again. passing to set up the run game has worked well for a good part of the season and i dont expect the jets to abandon it now. as for who i think could have a big game, i'd expect coles to be double covered alot after last week, and cotchery, mccareins, and even smith might get more looks than usual this week.
as for the whole deep ball thing, we know chads strengths, and thats obviously not one of them. but thats perfectly ok, and not only because of what he makes up for it with (extreme accuracy, intelligence and field vision, mental toughness, leadership abilities) but because of the types of recievers we have. coles is a run and catch type of guy who can make people miss and cotchery might be turning into a possession reciever type, a go-to guy on third and shorts. we dont have a "go up there and get it guy" like plax, and so we dont need that type of quarterback. although i like mccareins as a deep threat, since i think he gets overlooked with the emergence of cotchery... maybe a fly pattern to mccareins on the first posession...
For those who think Chad's pass yards are because his WRs get alot of YAC: http://snap.stats.com/stats/nflinfo/leaders.asp?year=Q&type=AFC/NFC+Passing&rank=230&Submit=Go Rank Player Team Yards After Catch 1 Tom Brady NE 1471 2 David Carr Hou 1413 3 Carson Palmer Cin 1373 4 Peyton Manning Ind 1346 5 Ben Roethlisberger Pit 1299 6 Philip Rivers SD 1279 7 Chad Pennington NYJ 1272 8 J.P. Looking at the breakdown you do realize that's the number of attempts not yards right? Pennington has not completed 100 balls for 20+ yards this year.... (It says on the page he's only completed 33 passes for 20+ yards, with YAC......)
After looking at the QB stats on that stat page link.... It appears we want to be in a 3 WR Set all game. Chad goes up to 94.9 QB rating... 2nd in AFC.
I think the key is to avoid turnovers. Miami only wins when the turn the other team over and play on a short field. I expect a conservative game plan, keeping Taylor off Pennington and relying on the defense to shut down an awful Fish offense.
