What I had meant is Revis dropped back into zone at which Rivers threw the ball. Of course it was tipped. Didn't re-read my post before I submitted it.
Just some thoughts from a charger fan. Its sort of amusing to say that the chargers were lucky to have a 21-10 lead despite being dominated in the first half and then say because the jets won a charger player should be thankful it was even close. The fact is the first half belonged to the chargers. The chargers play a bend but dont break defense and it worked pretty well in the first half. The INT by Weddle was a smart play/good read and jump on a ball. That is baiting Sanchez to make what he appears is a man on man throw and jump the route. I saw someone earlier in this thread actually claim Revis was baiting rivers on revis's pick. But i have no idea how this can be true, the pass was tipped off of jacksons hand and happened to deflect directly to revis's zone. I dont see how that is baiting. The 2nd INT most likely confused Rivers though. The 2nd half was a very good defensive performance by the jets which resulted in great field position throughout the half. Short fields resulted in a more efficient offense. Not as much wiggle room for the chargers to play bend but dont break. Exploiting our worst corner with plax was a great move obviously. The refs...you better believe i was pissed. From NY and watching with 2 hardcore jet fans they both admitted some shotty calls by the refs. The chargers got away with 2 plays. There was an illegal man downfield call on Mangold which looked ticky tack and a non call of PI on Jammer. But 2 PIs on jammer were suspect, including a huge PI on a 3rd and 3 that cost the chargers essentially 2 minutes of game clock, both of their timeouts and ended up costing the chargers 3 more points, turning a fg to tie to a TD to win game which was huge. Coupled with the next 3rd down play of a bizarre spotting left a bitter taste. The neutral zone infractions were also bizarre. 1 was a false start on 62 (sorry, dont know his name). 2 of them the chargers made no contact with the jets player and they have the right to get back, for some reason the jets decided to stop what they were doing and point and the refs decided to award the jets for stopping play by giving up 5 yards. It doesnt excuse the chargers woeful play though and it certainly was embarrassing watching the "2 minute drill" at the end of the game. Congrats on the win though. Unlike McMichael i will give partial credit to the jets, partial credit to the refs and partial credit to the chargers falling apart like they usually do.
That was a miscommunication between Plax and Sanchez, watch the play again. Burress turns to his left, not looking for the ball, which is going to his right. I believe Mark was looking to throw to the right corner, not towards the center of the endzone. Burress wasn't even looking for the ball yet.
If anything, it was the Jets beating themselves in the first half that gave the Chargers any sort of lead. If not for the Dustin Keller fumble or Mangold's holding penalty, this game is mismatch long before the 2nd half begins.
no, you cant have it both ways, if not for a tipped pass, 5 bad ref calls and one poorly thrown ball the chargers wouldve destroyed them. You cant say it for one team and not the other.
There were bad calls against the Jets as well. The refs were terrible both ways. Still... They were consistently terrible the entire game, and the team that adjusted to them better won. End of story.
contrary to popular belief all calls are not created equal. Which calls were bad against you. Like i said, i counted 2 iffy ones. The non call PI on jammer and the illegal downfield on mangold.
That's two missed first downs right there. The one they actually called on jammer was bad. We have been dealing with a call or two a game like that on Cromartie so as a jets fan I can't shed a tear for the chargers there. Looked like the jets got away ith two false starts that got called on the chargers. How big an impact those were is debateable but they did help the jets, no doubt.
im not too concerned about other games. There should be no carry over. The chargers arent immune to bad calls in other games as well. These calls were egregious errors that directly affected the outcome of a game. Lets not forget the sanchez spotting and for some reason no way to challenge it? I dont even know if thats a rule. Sure made no sense to me.
As many times over the years bad calls have screwed the Jets, forgive me if I'm not real upset that we finally get the benefit of a bad call for once.
Well, in reality both teams made a lot of mistakes. Critical turnovers and a penalties were in evidence all day.
I would put Norv Turner ahead of Rivers on the dumbest box of rocks scale. I have never liked the dude. Never. He, like Dick Jauron, manages to "snatch defeat from the jaws of victory" much too frequently. Something is seriously wrong on a team with a QB, receivers, and runners like the Chargers have that can't even score a FG in an entire half. Very poorly done. That said, the Jets D played well, especially in the second half.
You can have the the *huge pi* and three points back and I'll take the poor call on mangold for four extra points...since the jets had to settle for a field goal. The game was called poorly but pretty evenly. jets were just better. but i know how you feel.
I'll give that some calls were bad. As Jets fans we have been on both sides of that recently so I can see a charger fan being cross about those. The players however should know calls go both ways and some weeks you get them and others you don't. They should have just kept their mouths shut and waited for another day. Also, the Jets pretty much outplayed the chargers yesterday. This was nothing like the Dallas game where the Jets were pretty much outplayed and came back and won. They ran the ball and made plays so I feel they earned the win. Yes, they came back in the 4th QTR but that was more of them cleaning up their own mistakes from the first half than the Chargers playing better then them. To bad the Chargers are poor loosers I hope the chargers make the playoffs so we can rub in the win!
Yeah - the only dodgy call on Mangold was the ineligible downfield lineman call, but I can't remember if that made an obvious difference to points scored.
Jets got a good whistle a few times, but if they call the PI on Jammer when he takes off Holmes's head before the ball is there, that drive continues. The Jets had a lot of momentum at that point, and that non-call killed that drive on the spot.
