its 4 games for "maybe" taking steroids. Its not Merrimen who actually took them.

Its 4 weeks for a 3rd string guy. Who cares. Before this story he's awesome depth, and "Hey, put him in instead of TJ" now he's a dumbass cheater.

This is as bad as everyone getting nuts over Gholston's craptacular preseason, myself included.

This is no big deal. Mangini gave him his roster spot. See you at the Bye week Jessie.

This makes a lot of sense. Chatman played pretty well for Miami last year, but no one wanted him, to the point that he signed to be a 3rd stringer here. This explains why no one would want him.

Keeping a roster spot for this guy doesn't make any sense to me. As everyone points out he is a 3rd stringer. In the meantime your 1st and 2nd guy may end up taking more punishment at meaningless times in the first 4 games because this guy isn't here. If either of them get even a little banged up they will have to play with it or put the whole load on the other one.

What's the point? There are plenty of 3rd string RBs available out there after yesterday. There is also Rudi Johnson.

I wonder what Manmouse would have had to say a year or two ago about him. Notice "as a person" has been removed now. Not that I think it should have ever been there to begin with, I just laugh when I see peoples principles thrown under the bus when their job is on the line.

exactly. it is what it is. if it was definitely steroids i think the NFL would report that. im not saying whether or not he did. but point in case it happened in MIA. the guys very good depth. and im glad our HC isnt about to cut him with a choirboy attitude and replace him with some complete bum.

AWESOME! Great quote from Mangini. Chatman played his ass off for us, and deserves to be on the team.
Since this has been going on since last season, you know the JETS had to be aware of it.
It amazes me how quickly guys on this board want to disguard a player.I've never seen such a fickle bunch of fans in my life. It seems everyone here has never made a mistake. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone!

The diuretic in his system was there for either one of two reasons: to mask steroid use or to fascilitate rapid weight lose. Call me naive, but seeing him drop 60 lbs. last year, my thought is with the later. He tested positive for the diuretic last year when he was with the phins, so the jets knew full well of his situation and knew that a suspension was a very strong possibility when they signed him. We can only hope that this is the last of it.

As far as I'm concerned, the official Jet policy on steroids should be that the team shouldn't really encourage them, but it shouldn't really discourage them either.

so chatman wasnt cut like some on this board thought.

rather he gets a 4 game suspension for roids, and still gets to keep his roster spot.

It wasn't roids, read the thread.

Can someone change the thread title to something more accurate?

That's possible, but he has lost 55 pounds. The fact of the matter is that no one can say that he did with 100% confidence. I guess people will believe what they want to believe, and I'm guilty of it too, but the overwhelming majority of NFL running backs won't be successful weighing 280, especially when they're 5' 8". He needed to lose weight to save his career.

If he were using roids, presumably he would gain weight from the muscle mass.

It took the NFL from the end of the 07 season until now to get a ruling on this? I guess Chatman tied it up legally with his agent and other laywers, but damn it took a while for a test to say "yes he did" or "no he didn't"... maybe there is more to it.

It seems to me that he isn't keeping his roster spot, just that the league/union created another spot for cheaters. Once the suspension is up, the extra roster spot is lost and someone must be cut.

It will be instructive to see what BB learns from this. He'll rotate his players through getting caught with masking agents so that he can effectively enlarge his roster a few spots.

Okay...look, Chatman is an idiot but as long as he produces when he returns(and he WILL return, haters...sorry) then it's all good.
