he's a midday talkshow host on the radio. they do it to grab ratings. he overacts at times... not overreacts, overacts.
I don't know certain jets commentators give me bad vibes, much like his show. For example....Paul McGuire who seemed to love it when the Jets lost, and another wet blanket, Dave Jennings, it was just pure depression listening to him do the radio broadcasts back in the day.
When Joe did late nights, no matter how disgusted and disturbed I was coming home Sunday night after watching a debilitating home loss, I just HAD to tune in at midnight to take my medicine - Joe's midnight rant. Most of the time it was as if he never took in a breath until the first update break, and I just had to listen because he'd mention things that annoyed me while at the game but absolutely KILLED him. I couldn't turn in on Sunday night until I listened. I miss that. Joe's great. Great Jets therapy.
I loved when McGuire used to pick the winners and always bet against the Jets' and then he was there for one of the home games and Jets' fans were shaking the trailer he was in. I didn't mind Jennings though because back in the day, we really did suck. He's was a pretty honest announcer. If a player made a stupid play, he would say he made a stupid play. I like that honesty in an announcer. Compare that to Greg Buttle today, and Dick Lynch of the Giants. Both of them make the Jets/Giants players, all players, seem like they just made the greatest play of all time when all they did was rip off a 2 yard run or something similar. Hell, one time I heard Dick Lynch practically crying when the Giants clinched a playoff spot several years ago.
I actually laughed to myself at how mad I get at things like the play from the Seattle game in the video when they happened: "Fourth and Four . . . Favre looking....throws to Coles...oh he dropped it!" That play, that whole game, the whole end of the season (minus the Ellis TD fumble run), fucking sucked.
I liked Jennings. He wasn't the most gripping announcer, but he (unlike a lot of idiots who do color for games), knew his NFL rules and was a good observer of the action on the field. I really dislike Buttle. He's like the anti-Jennings.
When it comes down to it, Joe and Evan, this rant especially, hit the nail right on the head. I remember this from the "day after." I think every Jet fan worth his salt knew we were losing that game the second we didn't go for it on 4th down on the first drive. Say what you will about Beningo's rants, at least he's not a quarter of the asshole the pompous, self-righteous fat fuck of a host that comes on after him at 1. At least Joe and Evan will let you talk. Why the people of NY have chosen the Fat Fuck to be the radio superstar in this town is way, way, way beyond my capacity of thought. A man who's probably never competed for anything in his life (well, maybe other than a doughnut eating contest) is going to tell people what he knows about competitive sports? Fuck you, fatso. As far as Jennings, I liked him because he always came prepared and he knew every rule in the book, and you can't ask for more than that from a radio anaylist. Buttle is way to much of a homer, but I guess that's to be expected.
Wow.. Haven't heard a JoeB rant in a long time. Some funny shit too. Looks like he got his wish over the offseason as everyone he wanted out, IS out..
Listening to this was more depressing than funny. Pretty funny though too. But that game was sickening. Joe's predictions were all correct though. Haha. Called out Mangini, Favre, even Coles, all gone now. Someone send this to a Browns board. Wow, they are in for something.
