It could've been # 31 or a 2nd round pick like teams were offering. Be happy we got a 1st round pick for him
What would you have us do with a player that does not want to play for you and the coach does not want? At least we got some value for him. a 1st round pick is a 1st round pick no matter the position. And quite honestly, I came to this realization the other day, while Abe is very good, he is not great. Getting a 1st rounder for him is seems fair for all parties.
oohh, the newspapers. now i definitely believe it. until i hear Mangini and Tann come out and say, "yes, we're trading up and drafting Leinart," I'm not trusting any media scource; ESPECIALLY the newspapers. cheers
What did the media expect us to do? Make someone with a better pick want Abraham and have the cap room for him? We got the 29th overall pick for John Abraham who didn't even want to be here! Daunte Culpepper went for a second rounder...IMO we made out just fine and when we make our move to #2 or get the solid player at 29 people will see why we did this trade...
#29 is a lousy pick. Culpepper? You can't compare a DE in his prime with a QB coming off a MAJOR KNEE SURGERY.
We hardly got hosed...it wasn't a great deal...but probably the best they could've hoped for. as far as Abe goes, yeah, he's an impact player for sure and will be missed....but not that much. Those of you who think Atlanta has gotten a great deal are forgetting one thing......a long term contract for Abe (6 years) is a huge gamble....i mean the guy has put together , what, one full season in his career? He's injury prone, has not developed any leadership quality, and still really hasn't learned to defend the run. It is tough to give up potential game changing players, but in this case, I'm not to sorry to see him go.
Obvious to who? The FO doesn't talk to anyone. All of these reports in the papers are speculations by idiot sportswriters. These are the same writers that had no idea that the trade was hours away from going through, that ATL was talking to other teams for a 3rd partner, or that Denver was involved. And now they have the inside scoop on the Jets draft philosophy? I am NOT in favor of trading up for Leinart. I think we should stay put or trade down and stockpile more picks. What is obvious that the FO rebuilding through the draft and wants more picks. Exactly what their draft strategy is, is anyone's guess. But the Jets did offer him a contract, bent over backwards dealing with off the field issues. He wanted out, and the Jets didn't want to deal with him anymore.
People who think we got hosed have to remember that he wanted out of here. We just got a 1st round pick for a player we would have lost eventually anyways.
Another fallacy. He was Jets property. All they had to say is "we aren't trading ya, sign the franchise deal," and that would have been that. Guy never would have held out and lost that money!
every forgets that abraham had one full season, a boat load of problems and a piss poor attitude, The Jets weren't going to throw 18 mil his way for one season, Jets got what they wanted for a player who wanted out and was basically about to turn into a TO if he wasn't traded. IMO atlanta got abe but lost out on the first round and took a 3rd this year, which.....wont give them a premiere player, it may not even give them a person who will be on the roster and a 4th next year. The Jets got a 1st rounder so they can add two players that can come in a contribute and didnt have to give up anything else to get what they wanted
Oh yes because after the first 15 draft picks, everyone is medicore, right? Championship teams are built with depth after the first round. Take a look at the rosters of NE and Philly, how many of their stars were top 15 picks? Tell Brady he is mediocre.
the best player on defense is the guy that steps up in big games -- throughout his career he has failed to do that -- ie playoffs -- he saves his first 16 game season and 10 sacks for a contract year when we are 4-12 -- nice to have the guy but we need more than a pass rusher that can't guard against the run.
