Firing Bowles would be a big mistake. The facts are that Idzik and McCagnan have blown the majority of four years worth of draft picks. Also the big money players that McCagnan signed for Bowles (Wilkerson, Revis, Marshall, and Fitz) are not playing well. Both men should be given another year to turn it around.
Nerd OK so by your logic, the team is fucked for years, but this sack of petrified crap is going to turn it around? I know, Kazoo will become part of the team and magic them into a turn around season "Play your safeties deeper, and bring your DBs 9 yards close to the WR, dumb dumb"...oh wait..that would be SOS because they can't beat a rug this season. So they'll have a 9 win season next year, and everyone will be dangling off Bowles' hang-low, and then back to a 2-4 win season after that. 4 years wasted. Boom.
It probably was all 3, at the end of the day Mac creates to the contract. It was a failed gamble, but I want to see how Bowles and this Jets regime fights with their backs against the wall, things aren't going well at all, but I want to see their plan of action. I want to see how they would fix this football team before firing them. I think the DC, secondary coach, offensive lineman coach, these guys need to go, find some good coaches that can help the young talent.
The mere fact that Bowles said it wasn't a lack of effort, makes me wonder how slow they are in practice. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
You fire Bowles cause he is the most incompetent HC the Jets have had since Kotite, It's a simple decision. Mac is not so simple, if it was up to me I would hire a president of football operations who decides the fate of Mac. Bowles has to go, the sooner the better. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mac taking Hackenberg in round 2 is all you need to justify firing him this season. How an NFL team could watch Hackenberg's tape at Penn State and think he was worthy of a top 50 pick is befuddling. But, pulling the plug on Idzik early, makes it unlikely that they'll fire Mac. And I'm okay with that for now, despite being some what disappointed with his tenure thus far. Bowles, on the other hand, should absolutely go. What does Bowles excel at as a head coach? He's not a great defensive play caller, he trotted out the worst QB in the NFL continually this season, and is absolutely terrible in regards to game management. He's supposed to be a culture "cleaner" yet no change in the overall culture has been spotted. There has been ZERO improvement in his coaching; we gave him a pass for his mishaps last season due to his lack of experience as a head coach, but it's year two and he's making the same poor decisions. You don't keep incompetence for the sake of continuity Yes, continuity and patience is great. But there are instances in which the plug needs to be pulled instantly. Bowles is not solely responsible for this season... the problem starts with the owner, but this is the best we have to work with.
I can't justify the pick, but I want to see how he plays with improved mechanics because if he can improve on that, it could be a really good return
It was a horrible pick and there will be no return. The only way Hack could ever become even a serviceable starter in this league is if he had a true QB guru to work with and fix his mechanics and that's a HUGE if. The Jets do not have one of those on their staff. I find it comical that there were some posters on here who were ripping his O Line and Franklin at Penn St yet they unarguably got the last laugh with that one.
We don't know that yet, but if the Jets fire Gailey and Patullo, there absolutely won't be a return because you are making the QB learn another system. It's worth another season to find out. The QB can go outside of the Jets staff to work on his game, it's the off-season remember? Let's be rational here. Their offensive line was terribad with Hack, and when they changed his mechanics in college, it caused the QB to regress. 1. Hack works on release and footwork in the off-season with a guru ....also consider the CBA rules in terms of coaches contacting players 2. Mac acquires talented offensive lineman via draft / FA ... get some corners 3. Come into OTAs / TC, Hack gets mucho reps --- unless Petty shows something 4. See what we got Firing Bowles and Gailey in yr 2 will do nothing but set the young QBs back. I say give them another year and see if there's progress. Besides, if better QBs come out in 2018, I would rather have a new coaching staff then.
Did you roll the tapes of his games his last two years at PSU or watch him in the preseason this year, albeit limited action? I'm not sure what you see in him that makes you think he has any chance of being the Jets future but you're wasting your time if you think so. The Jets need to look past him as he is training camp fodder and nothing more. PSU's O Line was also not as bad last year as some want to make them out to be. They actually have 3 Freshman starting on their O Line this year which should indicate more inexperience and a shaky unit. However the reason they were so much better this year? They had a QB who exceeded all expectations in Trace McSorley and led them to a Rose Bowl. Hack just isn't good and that was a bad pick by Mac. The verdict is still out on Mac and if he knows how to evaluate QB talent or not.
It's not that a team loses so much as it is the way they lose. We've been relatively injury free this year and there's no excuse for losing to the Bengals, Rams and Dolphins and getting blown out by the Colts the way they did. That all falls on coaching. It's also troubling the way that he's seemingly lost the locker room and ability to motivate players to go out there and play their hardest. Not any players either, the two supposed best and highest paid players on the roster in Wilkerson & Revis. This was one of my biggest concerns in going from Rex to Bowles. I wasn't opposed to Rex's firing but they brought in Bowles who is supposed to be a players coach but he's a dead personality. I'd much rather he be a disciplinarian than a supposed players coach that the players don't like. They loved Rex too much and it's part of the problem in not only bringing in a guy that the players don't like, but a guy that isn't a hard ass AND they don't like him. Seems somewhat petty but these guys are humans. If we want any chance at developing what will be an incredibly young offense in the upcoming years I think we need to make a move now in the coaching department. You don't keep a guy just for the sake of continuity. The most disturbing thing is his lack of involvement with any portion of the team that isn't the defense AND the defense sucks dick. I don't like what Maccagnan's done either persay, but general managers need more time than coaches need to install their vision. We've seen plenty from Bowles and not near enough of Maccagnan. Not to mention we yet again forced a coach on a GM. Stupid. One needs to choose the other. Not the owner blindly choosing both. Of course they'd tell him they can work together; they'd be losing out on millions and their first opportunities if they said no. All reports were that Doug Marrone was Maccagnan's guy until the NY media got wind of it and shredded Marrone publicly so Woody got cold feet.
I saw Hack play all 3 years at Penn State. In order to see why he struggled you also need to see what the coaching staff did to him. http://www.pennlive.com/pennstatefootball/index.ssf/2016/04/penn_states_christian_hackenbe_43.html Penn State is obviously more talented this year, they have better weapons and its just a better team overall. The jury is out and he was the biggest wildcard in the draft for that very reason. Willing to give it another season.
Fair enough. You've got much more faith in him than I do. Regardless we still need to address the QB position this offseason in the draft/FA as the Jets eternal search continues.
The roster was better last year. Brandon Marshall had a career year, Decker was healthy, we had Ivory, Revis was much better, Pryor was great, Wilkerson was a superstar etc. And as I said before , he was still making these idiotic decisions last season. We gave him a pass, because the team was winning/ he was a rookie.
