He has no shot at playing this year because they don't want to force him into playing with bad mechanics, they want to completely revamp him. It will ruin the QB if they throw him out there with bad mechanics. If they didn't waste their time with Fitz and Geno; perhaps the learning curve could have been accelerated, but we won't know that now.

I agree that generally getting rid of a HC two years in is not a good idea, but we have seen a ridiculous regression in literally every aspect of coaching from Todd Bowles to the rest of his assistants. Bowles is still ultra-conservative, in game management is terrible, challenges also very bad. Aside from that he has held on to some vets who are clearly a detriment to this team, whilst ignoring younger players who deserve a shot. He handled the QB situation horribly, held on to Fitz for far too long, anointed him as starter without having him under contract, allowed Sheldon Richardson and Mo Wilkerson to miss meetings without immediate repercussions. I just don't see a leader of men, he's too timid, too conservative. You want to be like that? You better hope you win cause that shit doesn't fly in New York.

We may scratch out a win within the next few games, I personally hope we lose out. No point in ruining draft order, and quite honestly if Bowles isn't fired, you best believe most of the assistants will be fired.

You are clearly in the minority clinging to hope that Todd Bowles can turn this around--he lost this team long ago--some of us can see that

I just think Bowles has been left out to dry. It's pretty clear that the plan was to use veterans to keep the fans satiated until the young guys were ready to play in 2017, and now that they're all getting hurt and regressing due to age, there's nothing he can do but wade water until this season is over and move forward with what they wanted to do next year.

Even if you're correct about that being the initial plan, plans fail and then alternative plans need to be adopted. You just don't blindly stick with a plan when it isn't working because that was your initial plan. How was Bowles "left out to dry"? He's the HC. He can change the plan any time he wants. He doesn't have to take orders from Mac. Unless he's a complete and utter wuss, why would he take orders from Woody on who to play? I know that Woody is stupid and egotistical, but I doubt that even he is that stupid and egotistical that he'd hire a coach and then try to tell the coach who to play.

There's plenty that Bowles could do. He could hold players accountable. He could bench them when they throw 6 picks in a game. He could bench them when they're not executing, putting forth effort, making stupid mental errors, and/or committing stupid penalties. According to Marshall, Bowles has had them run gassers before when they screwed up. He could have them running a lot more gassers, fine them, and come up with other ways to punish and/or motivate players. He could change his practice routines so that they drill and drill until the players execute flawlessly. You're just making lame excuses.

Bowles needs to go. Most hapless, lifeless coach in the NFL. Under Bowles Wilkerson and the defense have gotten worse. Against the Colts the team decided it was cool to take the night off. Bowles has lost the team completely. If the Jets are serious about getting better it starts with dumping one of the worst coaches in the NFL. I don't think this team conditions or practices. I don't think Bowles has a clue how to lead a team. No discipline. The worst Jets in 19 years.

Gailey needs to go. Single back, run. 5 receiver set pass. One of the easiest play callers to read at the line of scrimmage. Thinks Fitzpatrick has an arm like Brees. Fails to recognize strengths and weaknesses of his players. Awful coordinator.

Mac Attack probably needs to go. Hackenberg 2nd round pick. Does not understand value. Does not understand talent.

Woody sell the team. Enjoy Ambassadorship.

Geno was the backup plan for competing in 2016, it's not Bowles' fault he tore his ACL after like 20 plays. I think we've already seen glimpses of why Petty wasn't a viable option this year, despite a few "flashes". These last 4 games have shifted from trying to be competitive to stave off the fans to evaluating young players for the future. There's the plan shift you're looking for.

Has there been a 2nd rd pick in the last decade aside from David Harris that has been worth a shit for this team?

At first, I was really opposed to bringing in Cutler/Romo, now I leaning towards taking them at the right price on a short term deal. The reason being we have some pretty good young receivers and if Petty isn't the guy or isnt ready yet (lets forget about Hack for the moment) there will be someone who could throw to them next year. We will be freeing up a lot of cap through cuts because we had a lot of overpaid and underperforming guys that will get the axe this offseason.

Throwing him out for two games or a week 17 game is not going to ruin him. Letting him play against real NFL defenses in a meaningful game or too will probably be better for him in the log run. But the the reason why he can't even be the backup is because he's terrible. The fact that he isn't even good enough to be a back up QB when Ryan Fitzpatrick is the only guy he has to beat out makes the pick even more ridiculous. Mechanics are not the only problem with Hackenberg, IMO. He is problems are far greater than that, but I've already expressed my concerns regarding Hackenberg many times on this forum.

This is not how the situation should be viewed,IMO. The owner/GM have to look at this from a long term perspective. If you bring back Bowles, he'll most likely have to make the postseason next season to keep his job. Development of young players on this roster will not be a priority if he comes back under those circumstances. That creates a conflict of interest. Reports are that the GM is going to rebuild this season, but if the coach is going to be on the hot seat next season how is a rebuild supposed to run smoothly? Next season will be just as disorganized as this season if the HC is fighting for his job.

As I said before, you either let the GM hire his guy this season or keep Bowles long term; that keeps the FO and coaching staff in lockstep with each other. If they decide to keep Bowles, then he needs to be here for the next two seasons or so to ensure that everyone possess the same interests next season. I personally don't think Bowles is fit to be an NFL head coach, and he's certainly not the coach I'd want heading my rebuild. However, I won't be angry if he returns as long as he embraces rebuild/development next season.

Actually it should, and playoffs is not an indicator on if the CS should return. Like I mentioned before, I am sure there is a long-term plan for Hack's development, I personally want to see that development plan put to use. You fire the coaches, you are setting the QB back. You got Darron Lee on defense really starting to make plays. You have to consider the young roster and their progression, where they are in terms of that.

Woody, needs to see this through and not have a knee-jerk reaction and fire the entire CS. This is why I am giving them another season to see if they can bounce back. If the CS has an awful season next year meaning, no progression from the players and no competitiveness then you fire the CS, bring in a new QB / OC to go along with it. I get it, you don't like Bowles, but I am giving them another season to see if they can work on the kinks and get this team back in order.

If the Jets aren't focusing on Hack's development, then Mac and the HC need to go because they are wasting picks. Not just Bowles, but Mac should also suffer the same fate.

I didn't say it was Bowles' fault that Geno got hurt, but it's Bowles' fault that he didn't turn to Geno earlier when Fitz was stinking the joint up, and it's Bowles' fault that he didn't bench Fitz and turn to Petty sooner. You think wrong. We haven't seen enough of Petty to know anything.

The Jets weren't being "competitive to stave off the fans." That's ridiculous! The fans have wanted to see Petty and were sick of Fitz over a month ago, if not longer. You totally misread the situation.

Bowles is a day late and a dollar short in making the shift. Hopefully, the dumb bastard has already insured that he will be fired the second the season ends.

They want to see what Petty can do out there. I have no issue redshirting Hack right now. Now if they were to work on his mechanics the minute he was drafted, gave him the reps in OTAs / TC, and already did the revamping, then I would say bring him out there, but I see no benefits of playing Hack this season. His mechanics and lack of confidence are the primary issues. The reading of the defense is there, the ability to go through reads is there. Hack can improve on those, but the primary issues are his mechanics bar none. If he has more pressing issues then his mechanics, then I am interested to know what those issues are.

We'll see what Petty looks like and possibly revisit this. I think he's going to make it clear that he shouldn't have been an option before mathematical elimination because he's nowhere near ready. And given that he's 25 and off 2 years of development, "not ready" is a kind euphemism for "not an NFL starter".

Bringing in Cutler or Romo is still an awful idea. The Jets aren't ready to challenge for the playoffs. They still have a lot of holes. Even if the Jets do cut a lot of the veterans and open up a lot of cap space, why in the heck should they waste it on Cutler or Romo (and that's what they'd be doing)? For the money it would take to sign either of them, they could sign 2 or possibly even three younger players who address several needs and who can potentially help the team for several years rather than 1 or 2.

It is my believe that Petty will be ready to compete for the starting job, but even if he isn't, it would make more sense to bring in a Glennon or Foles who would be cheaper, younger and probably better than Cutler, and would stay healthier longer than the 10 minutes Romo will.

How old was Kurt Warner when he became a starter? How old was Aaron Rodgers? There have been other QBs who didn't become starters, or quality starters until they were that old or a year or two older.

This is how the owner will view it/ how nearly every NFL team view this. That's how Bowles is going to view this too unless the owner tells him he won't be fired after next season. Next year MUST be considered when evaluating Bowles's status at the conclusion of this year. Saying let next season handle itself, is just going to lead to dissonance.

I can only imagine how the Jets plan to get fannys in the seats next year,,,,Romo or Cutler don't excite me at all,,but Woody would love both of them,,,,don't get me started on the thought of this pathetic coaching staff coming back. They will make Casey Rodgers out to be the only culprit and shitcan him when the entire group of them are pathetic,,,ugh

So if the Jets go 8-8, and either Petty / Hack shows extreme promise, you don't think that buys him another year at the least?
