Kerley was the best offensive player we had on the team. He racked up almost 700 yards with passes being 'thrown' to him by the worst QB in the NFL. Move him to Brady/Rogers/Manning and he'd get 1000 yards with his eyes closed. Youz ppl who say "he only had 600 yards, he must be avg or below avg" simply don't understand football. You watch football, but you do not understand it.
Just feel I have to correct this - Kerley's best season was 827 yards. That's impressive for a 2nd year guy miscast as a WR1 with Mark Sanchez as his QB. He definitely regressed the past two years - he was only ok in 2013 and downright awful in 2014, really a missed opportunity for him to step up and he flat out failed. I think there's something to be said about QB chemistry - he didn't seem to have any with Geno. I actually think Kerley is an excellent route runner and could be a very good slot receiver. Let's see if he gets some chemistry with Fitzpatrick - I actually like his chances.
My mistake, revisionist thoughts to support my argument I suppose. I just don't think he'd net us anything in terms of picks. He does us a lot more on our roster than a future 6th or 7th does though.
I agree that he'll be hard to trade. However playing hypotheticals. Kerley would fit there quite nicely. They have some big guys on the outside in Funchess and Philly Brown plus Greg Olsen. They could use a possession receiver who runs solid routes. In truth I see them signing Reggie Wayne anyway.
I know this may come to a surprise to many, as we have had garbage receivers for so long, JK is a low-end 3rd or good 4th receiver on most teams. While I like the guy a lot, the fact that he was our #1 receiver at times was just pathetic in today's NFL. The only thing wrong with him being on this team was Idsick decided to actually show him the money (one of the very few) during his tenure.
Why are we so desperate to ditch this guy? He's not a star receiver and thats perfectly fine... but it sure seems like people want him to be one. I mean look at the make up of our receiving group… We have two big receivers in Decker and Marshall who can go get it, we have a burner in Smith, why would we not want someone out of the slot that can make something happen underneath in single coverage and turn it into big yards? Kerley is far more valuable to this current roster then any fifth, sixth or seventh round draft pick.
I think it's all dependant on what other guys like Enunwa do for example. If he brings the same ability PLUS adds a better special teams value Kerley becomes expendable. If nobody else brings the same or better ability then of course, there is no reason to move on from Kerley.
We've been thru this before, he is going nowhere. The Jets would have to absorb 3.4 mil in dead money to dump him this year and they don't have it to absorb.
I feel like Quincy is a completely different type of receiver though. More of a strong physical type, no? We already have two of those starting for us. I think that Kerley is a much better fit but I understand what you're saying about special-teams ability.
preachhhh. Trading Kerley is prob the dumbest idea ever right now. You never know, receivers get injured - I think when the season starts, Kerley will get plenty of snaps in 3 to 4 receiver sets.
Philly Brown is tiny. Prob same size as Kerley. Isn't cotechery still there? Separately, I too have been underwhelmed by Kerley at times - he should have stepped up more in some key situations last year and seemed to fall off after his contract but our WRs seem to be injury prone a nd like someone else mentioned cap hit is too much. if Marshall or decker gets hurt again Kerley is kind of guy u need around
This is a very flawed rationale. Regardless of his skill, Belichick will turn him into a 900 yard receiver?? Has every Patriot receiver become a 900 yard receiver? So we shouldn't have cut Stephen Hill cuz BB can turn him into. 900 yard receiver? How about all the WRs they've drafted? Complete silliness.
Kerley is very similar to Wes Welker and Julian Edelman, both are/were 1,000 + yd receivers. I think his point is that those type of guys do very well in NE's scheme.
My point is we can't hold onto every player we've ever had because we're afraid he's gonna get picked up by the Pats and become a stud. There's no basis for that thinking. If it was true, every Pat receiver would be great. And that hasn't happened. At all.
But nobody said that, I don't remember the last time NE had a big wideout who dominated over there. They don't fit their offense. We're talking about guys like Welker and Edelman, those guys flourish in NE's offense and at this point Kerley is better and more talented in my book than Welker was before NE traded for him, and obviously before Edelman broke out. Kerley can easily become a 1000 yard receiver in NE.
Again, as the post above said; JK is the type of receiver that fits their scheme perfectly. Let's all calm the fuck down. Is this the 3rd thread about JK? Pump the fucking breaks guys...it's nonsense based on his ability and contract. Not going to happen and is actually a waste of my time pointing this out to halfwits that suggest moving or cutting him as an option.
If it isn't obvious by now this team needs as much quality veteran leadership as it can get. Kerley fits the bill. Sure they could jettison him for the woman beater in Enunwa based on potential and then act surprised when he has an off field transgression / doesn't live up to his potential on the field. That's been the Jet way for awhile now. Or you know, they could keep Kerley around since he's both under contract and a guy who makes up for his limited potential with reliability, professionalism and accountability. I'll go with the last option for now.
