Personally, I'm rooting for McDougle to make the team. However, I don't think his draft position will protect him considering it was Idzik who drafted him. No one will hold it against MacCagnan (ok maybe someone here...) if McDougle gets cut and there could be a million reasons why, from health to poor performance to someone else simply stepping up... McDougle is not safe with a new regime in town and the depth as loaded as it is. I think the Jets need to really feel there's potential for a future for him to keep him on the team.

We're in a really good spot with DBs. With Milliner, McDougle, Walls and Williams who would have been starters last season playing reserve rolls behind Cro and Revis. We're set for years.

    Seven?

    Revis
    Cromartie
    Skrine
    Milliner
    McDougle
    Williams

That makes 6. Who would be the 7th, Darrin Walls? Corwin Brown for STs? I would be surprised at 7 CBs, but not shocked. Bowles love DBs. In addition, with Milliner's and maybe McDougle's health in question, it could be like only keeping 5 or 6 CBs, especially if Milliner starts the season on the PUP list.

Was Bowles trying some of his corners at safety? Or was that just board speculation? (Offseason's been so long, I can't remember.)

I don't know. I haven't read of any moves or experiments like that. I remember that some on the board were wondering about trying Cro at FS and McDougle at slot corner. Some confusion may be coming from the fact that Gilchrist played CB, FS and some SS with the Chargers. Bowles has indicated also that in certain situations, Pryor (SS) and Gilchrist (FS) might switch positions. Then of course we had Allen playing at CB either last season or the season before, but I don't think we'll see that again. I think Allen will stick to S and probably back up Pryor at SS.

Milliner at FS makes the most sense. Super fast, ball hawk, great tackler (at least in college...he never shied away from taking someone out) .

Just not sure if his body can hold up.

Anyway we're in a great position at D-Line and DB. Too much talent. At least at DB we have young talent waiting their turn learning from the best. Just hope they don't learn how to miss open field tackles in playoff games!

If Bowles cuts one of our DBs, which one would you feel the worst over? Milliner? McDougle? Williams? Walls?

To me losing any one of the first 3 would really suck. I can see these 3 running the show 2-3 yrs from now when Cro & Revis are sent packing.

Maybe sooner if Mac can land a franchise QB somehow someway or we re-hire Tanny as a consultant and we give Geno a $50M extension.

I'm not sold on the whole "This will be a Top 3 Defense" talk.

CB is better than average. D line is great. However, in order to have the best defense, ALL facets of your defensive positions must at the very least be average (with some positions being exceptional).

I personally think that the LB corp is slightly less than average. However, for sake of conservative argument, let's say it is average. Still this leaves the Safety position.

I am legitimately worried about the safety position. Calvin Pryor hype has no basis because Pryor showed us basically nothing in his rookie year. The whole "played out of position argument" is an excuse because he actually did play many snaps as a SS. His mistakes were also basic instinctual failures such as tackling and taking the wrong angles. And for those excited about Marcus Gilchrist, you may have been misguided. Gilchrist had a lot of issues playing on the chargers and is not great in coverage.

Is the defense going to be good? I definitely think so. However, I'm not buying Top 3 or even Top 5.

Milliner would be the worst just because of the potential he's shown at certain points. However, I know that Milliner won't be cut.

Out of all of the rest, I would probably say Marcus Williams. He showed real talent last year in just a few amount of games and has already earned the Praise of Bowles, impressing in OTAs apparently. McDougle I have high hopes for, but he's not played a single game so I'm bound to feel worst about the cut player who has shown more.

Once Milliner is healthy I wonder how long before he takes Cro's spot

Who do you guys think will lead our defense in INT's? I wanna say its between Cro or Skrine because they'll be tested more often that not. Hope Mr. Buster can stop with the defensive interference calls ..i think he led the league with like 21 or something crazy like that last year

    No, it's a dream D!

The only way this is a dream team is if you 're counting on a nightmare of an offense with Geno starting. I don't mean nightmare in a good way either.

I am excited about the defense!

The defense is going to be one of if not the best in the league this year.

I hope we don't waste it.

I'm not sure what your definition of a wasted season is but I don't see us coming close to winning a superbowl. Maybe we'll get into the playoffs. Unfortunately the patriots stand a good chance of repeating. Giving a 38-yr old Tom Brady a one month vacation is going to help him.

Waste it in the sense of a completely lost season.

I have zero illusions that we're contending for a SB but I'd like to see an entertaining season with relevant games into December.

I'm almost certain that will happen. If we have one of the best defenses in 2015, the prospect of merely "an entertaining season with relevant games going into December" seems disappointing to me.
