This is the last year that either one of them carries a negative contract value. In other words, the last year that the cap hit for a cut outweighs the amount being paid. Seeing as we could save money by cutting either one, we have some leverage. Excellent time to renegotiate. Neither would actually get cut, but the idea that it's possible helps the FO.
People keep saying that like if it's a golden egg... Let's not forget the history of the JETS signing back their young talent......THEY DON'T!!!
Mangold and Harris have 2 years on their contracts. They can be renewed during or after next season. These are our FAs next year. UFA - James Dearth Wayne Hunter Tony Richardson Jay Feely Marques Douglas Howard Green Larry Izzo Ahmad Carroll Ben Hartsock Ryan Fowler RFA- Kellen Clemens Eric Smith Brad Smith Leon Washington Drew Coleman Robert Turner James Ihedigbo Marques Murrell David Clowney Braylon Edwards
i think with jones being let go and reworking a contract or two, plus dumping woody, the jets can get everyone else in.
UFA - James Dearth - keep Wayne Hunter - indifferent Tony Richardson - keep Jay Feely - keep Marques Douglas - keep Howard Green - dump Larry Izzo - dump Ahmad Carroll - keep Ben Hartsock - keep Ryan Fowler - indifferent RFA- Kellen Clemens - dump Eric Smith - keep Brad Smith - dump Leon Washington - KEEP!!!!!! Drew Coleman - dump Robert Turner - indifferent James Ihedigbo - indifferent Marques Murrell - indifferent David Clowney - indifferent Braylon Edwards - keep
Don't we have a bunch of dead cap space coming off the books next year as well? I think we're still on the hook for Pennington and Coleman who I think was making a decent chunk of change.
***Added note. D'Brick has a $12.5M cap number in '11. I believe he'll be cut and resigned before '11 preseason.
If there's one thing I have faith in it's Tannebaum's ability to work around the cap. So long as he's with the organization I think it's a non-issue.
Also, Kris Jenkins Cap number this year is $6.4M. Next year it'll be $3.9M. We'll save $2.5M right there. See all the money we're saving...

That would be 16 extra players. In my opinion, we can count on resigning; Leon Washington, Braylon Edwards, Eric Smith, Larry Izzo, Ben Hartstock, James Dearth and James Ihedigbo. I assume that they may resign Jay Feely if there are no better options available and Tony Richardson if he feels like going another year. I also believe they’ll cut T Jones and D Woody because they eat $13M and have virtually no penalty if cut. I think the long and the short of this is, the Jets will be in good shape if there’s a cap. But that’s just my opinion.
He'll cost $3M in penelty over 3 years if cut. He'll save $11,870,000 over that same time. If I were a betting man, I'd give him a 10% chance of being a Jet next year on his current contract.
So how the hell will a cap work again after an uncapped year if say JJ and Snyder throw their money around and have guys making a ton of cash and other teams don't go as crazy? Whatever salery cap is agreed upon they will already be over it, no?
It's a clusterf*ck. If there's no cap, we get 2 franchise tags. Which means we can keep Leon and Braylon if no contracts are made. I don't know all the facts about uncapped year, it's a headache.
Never underestimate the genius! Take a look at these players and their cap charge from 09 to 2010. Its truly a work of a genius! Code: Player 2009 2010 Drop off $mil $mil Bart Scott 8.20 5.75 2.45 D. We get 1 Franchise tag, and one Transition tag, but that sounds likely on the off chance we do not sign either of them this year. I think Leon gets signed long term before the 2010 offseason, Braylon is a wait and see. Though I do think a move will be made on him within the same timeframe.
