i would be willing to bet that LT would want a salary far to high to be a role player/situational third back.... if we are going to be over paying our #3 back might as well be Jones seeing as how he has produced here and has out done LT the last 2-3 years...
I remember a similar issue with Curtis. He led the league in rushing one year and looked done the next. I'm sure his knee caused much of that drop-off, similar to Jones' situation. The Jets need to treat the Jones situation as a bottom line deal. Come back with a re-negotiated salary and be willing to split carries. Otherwise, they have to part ways. RB is NEVER the position you want to hold onto one year too many. I agree totally with your second comment though.
No I don't want to see L.T. He's useless and id much rather draft a rookie RB and build him up. Besides we have leon, jones, and greene.
No to LT,I think Jones has more left on his tire then LT does. It should help TJ next season sharing carries with Greene and Washington. Hopefully he will have fresher legs come playoff time!
The one thing that slowed LT and helped in his decline in SD was not having a FB anymore. Once his FB got cut his decline happened. For me in my opinion or wishful thinking is that if he had an oline and a fullback in Richardson like he had in SD with Lorenzo he would be back on top. With a 3 RB rotation in LT, TJ, and Greene or LT, Greene and Washington would be a dream.
Insanity at its best. Why would Jets cut Jones, save less than $4mil, and sign LT for atleast $5-6 mil? LT is one year younger than TJ, but played like he was 3 years older than TJ. Or maybe TJ hasn't slowed down yet. Either way, Jets are not cutting TJ to bring in LT. Neither would they renegotiate a deal with TJ. Its a cap free season. If Jets can spend $7 mil on Faneca, they can spend $6 on TJ. Money would have been an issue in ONLY a capped year.
Hmm interesting theres some solid young HBs on the RFA market. Few of these guys id love the jets to get to replace TJ Jerious Norwood, Atlanta. (RFA) Pierre Thomas, New Orleans. (RFA) Darren Sproles, San Diego. (RFA) Jerome Harrison, Cleveland. (RFA) Lendale White, Tennessee. (RFA) Cadillac Williams, Tampa Bay. (RFA) Mike Bell, New Orleans. (RFA) LeRon McClain (FB), Baltimore. (RFA) http://bleacherreport.com/articles/340524-2010-nfl-offseason-offensive-free-agents
For RFAs with a tender ? I expect all of these guys to be tendered, so the jets would have to trade for them no ? I could be wrong, but im almost sure thats for UFAs only.
I don't think Tanny would make this move. LT has seriously diminished skills, and he's far from a difference maker for the money he will be seeking.
I like a few guys in this list. I'm very particular towards power guys, so I'd love to bring in McClain. Bell is also a nice back, but he has problems staying on the field. But, if he was splitting time with Greene and Washington, that could be a real nice Trio.
to me thats the problem...TJ is a guy that needs carries to get going. You can't just give him a few carries a game and expect him to produce he's not that kind of runner.
