Everyone chose to give Chad a pass because he played behind that O Line and sucked. But they did not cut a guy starting his first NFL games any slack behind the same trash protection. Truth is, no one can know THAT uch about Clemens except the coaches and players who see him day in and day out in practice.

That's because there weren't any Jets fans at that game.

After thinking about it, I would really like to see Kellen get a fair shot to be the starter.

I just don't see Brett Ratliff making it as an NFL starter. Hopefully I am wrong and (if given the job) does good.

A lot of Cowboys fans probably felt the same about Romo. And now he's 'doing good' and banging Jessica Simpson and disappointing Cowboys fans when it matters. I don't want an 'NFL Starter'. I want a QB that kicks fucking ASS.

You'd better hope ONE of the two of them is serviceable. There's no real talent available at the QB position when we pick. Given this franchise's ability to judge Qb talent, we're in trouble here unless either one of our kid QB's can cut it.
Sad as this assessment might be, what's even worse is that we bring back Pops for yet another run. At best, Farve can be a bridge to the 2010 draft. Too bad we didn't get ONE of the last crop of blue chip Qb's that came around.

He'll like Ratliff or Ainge, before he likes Clemens.

The same Chad that threw for over 3600 yards with 19 tds and 7 ints and finished second in MVP voting?

I hate when people bring this up. Maybe the fact that Chad was beating out Kellen is more of a product of Chad being good than Kellen sucking.

Chad got such a pass that he was sent packing for nothing and we were left with a QB mess. He should have gotten a pass and a chance to play behind this revamped team. Bringing Favre in set this team back years. I say don't bring in any veterans to compete for the starting job and let Clemens or Ratliff battle it out and play the season. What good would it do to bring in a player like Leftwich, who would be on his 4th team and hasn't won anything????? How does that "advance the ball" at the QB position???

Clemens should start TC with just as good of chance as Ratliff and Ainge. Personally, I'm not sure Ainge makes the squad next year, wit the positive drug test in his portfolio. If Favre comes back, he gets the starting job. However, with his age, he may not get as long of a leash. Clmens and Ratliff will have to show a lot in TC, which will hopefully mean they get more time against # 1 defenses. That is the only way to truly know their potential before the season starts. Hopefully we don't have to throw one of them into the fire early. My vote is for Clemens.

Precisely and this is why i think we should possibly look into drafting a rb with our first round pick. If beanie wells or shon greene fall to us. Imagine our running game. shon green to start the game, jones to finish the game leon scattered around all about; screens, runs, tosses, passes, kick returns, punt returns. Limit our qb to 10-15 passes a game. It sounds like victory to me. Drop baker and franks sign a guy similar to baker maybe jim Kleinasser and a guy who specializes in rbk and let the games begin.

I wouldn't spend a lot of time hoping for Clemens... if he beats out his competition so be it... but even then we aren't guaranteed anything special about him starting. He showed bloody little at last years camp in comparison to other QB's so I don't think his ceiling had much height to it to begin with.

His best shot at starting is if Schottenheimer stays because he's the one who has the most experience in the offseason. If BS goes then Clemens and Ratliff will be almost on even ground. I think Clemens at the very least can be a good game manager if we consistently run the ball and have a very good defense.

And once again I am going to bring up the Steelers game last season where Kellen drove us down the field from our own 20 to tie the game, and then WON the game in OT on the first drive.

Only one person has commented on it, and people seem to be dodging it. Why is everyone forgetting about that game?

My point was that Kellen was unspectactular in trying to take the leading role although Chad was good enough to lose terribly to the Ravens in the playoffs and become exposed for what he is. An average QB.

The 1992 New York Jets season.

The Browning Nagle era opens with a 366yd, 2 TD performance against Atlanta.

Even Browning Nagle had a good game. One performance does not a QB make. If I remember correctly, since I was one of the fans there that day, our defense had one hell of a game. Chased Ben all over the field.

It's funny 'cause everyone defends Favre when he pulls that move in garbage-time. At least he was able to drive straight down the field.
