Yep, there is NO reason we couldn't have signed him to a one year deal less than 5 million. It would give me personally a huge sense of security, and its only a year, so we can give these unproven guys time to transition. I understand Idziks plan, but I don't see why we couldn't get him back for one more year on the cheap.
Fuck this. I'm pissed at Idzik for this. Why the fuck let a leader and cheap stop gap leave like that? What a joke.
I wish him nothing but the best. He played through a real tuff hip injury last year and never once complained or used it as an excuse. He was a real trooper for us out there last year, and I remember reports saying that his hip injury was season ending when it was first reported and he was right there starting for us that Sunday. I don't think we could've finished 8-8 without him playing through that injury last year.
I will always have fond memories of watching him try to two hand touch tackle receivers. Brings a tear to my eye. Godspeed, Cro!
The panic in this fan base never ceases to amaze me. Cro had some big moments for us but it's time to move on. The bottom line is, so far we've lost one starter on defense who clearly wansn't the same player anymore. Meanwhile we've improved the WR position, replaced Howard and resigned Colon ... and still have 12 draft picks to play with. Hopefully we'll turn those picks into quality players on our roster .... And if one of them happens to CB, what's the problem?
LOL! The common thread here is the Jets makng bad decisions, not that it's always right to give up on a vet. You should read your posts over before hitting the post button. I would have had no problem letting Cro go if someone else suitable to start was either on the team or gotten elsewhere. But they did not replace Cro in FA, and they do not have anyone suitable to start on the roster. This makes it much more likely they will use a high pick on Cb, when those should be used on O. Keep drinking that green and white Kool Aid.
No it isn't or else you would never have claimed anything about the cardinals. The minute you brought up the cardinals you weren't talking exclusively about the jets making bad decisions, you were claiming it must be a bad decision based on the cardinals subsequent decision to sign him. You should probably understand your own posts before hitting post. That's an incomplete argument. The complete argument is that it makes it much more likely to use a high pick on a CB IF they have a CB graded as worth that pick, which you have no idea of. So you can't make a declaration without knowing that. Of course no one us expecting a more reasonable argued from you at this point.
I love Cro, he's a true competitor, but given his age, injury, and dreadful play last season, it's perfectly sensible for the Jets to move on from him if it'll save them a few bucks. Not at all a stretch to think they can get equivalent or improved production from Walls, a rookie, or some other free agent.
I don't believe that the Jets ignore need in the draft. Like when they picked Milliner with their first pick. Several analysts have note while the coming draft is relatively loaded with wideout talent, and of course there are a few Qb's and other players on O there as well, there are a couple of cb prospects. The point about the Cards is not whether it is right or not to go after a vet in FA. The point is that I think the Cards had to satisfy themselves that Cro will likely have come back from his injury to an acceptable extent by opening day for them to have signed them. Even the Jets were interested in Cro. Even the Jets must have had some notion that Cro will not be hurting as much in the coming season as he did last year. Ftr I think both that I made that point and it should in any event have been self evident what the Cards, and for that matter the Jets, were thinking about Cro and his hip injury. Sorry you missed it before, but there you go!
As for Bart Scott comparisons, Scott would have been 33 on Opening Day last year, while Cro will only be 30 this coming opening day. So that's a difference, and of course he did not get signed by anyone, while Cro signed with the Cards. Another difference is that Tanny had drafted Demario Davis at ILB, and he was there to start when Scott was cut. I myself had high hopes for Davis, but he's been only decent as a starter. In other words, I think Davis rated higher as a prospect than Walls does now to replace the departing vet. The great thing about the future is we get to see how this plays out, but I do think it likely the Jets will not end up starting Walls on Opening Day.
I think everybody forgot cro's age...injury..and production from last year. Idk how many times i screamed at cromartie from the MetLife stands to the bar to my couch. Dude was getting burned like income tax money.
This is a recurring problem with Jets fans. There comes a time in a players career where he gets either too old or injured or both and we have to part ways. That player no longer fits our scheme moving forward. Cromartie was just that. Old and has an ailing hip injury that could really limit him. It would be nice for guys like him to spend their entire career here but you have to be practical. It wasn't gonna happen. It was a smart move for the future of this franchise. A business decision that had to be made.
I'm tired of Jets fans crying all the time. Cro is terrible. And even before last season, he was overrated. Lets move on.
Cro had two pro bowl caliber seasons. One was way back with the Chargers, and one was thankfully timed just as Revis went down with injury. Other than that, you don't give a big contract to guys who played great for 20% of their career. I'm sure we could have had him at a 1 year deal, but if the front office believes Walls can play at a close level for a fraction of the price, go with Walls. He's young with upside and inexpensive. Let Walls compete with a drafted CB. Same goes for DRC btw, don't sign a guy who played well for 2 out of 7 or however many seasons he's played.
Losing Cro & Revis in Back 2 Back seasons... Yep, what I have said all along about letting your best players go continues. This team will NEVER keep franchise type players. Instead, we keep players like Pace and let our best ones go. Yea, I always say it's a team game but a team with better players is the one that wins.
The Jets picked Milliner becuase he was the highest rated player on their board. They picked him at 9, and most people had him rated as top 5 talent. They didn't go for WR or OLB or S with their second 1st round pick even though those were "needs" because Sheldon was their top rated player at that point.
