OK, most of your rant is wrong. Recent history (lets say, 20 years) we not only have a winning record vs the Jets, we have been to the AFC Championship game three times. You have been to the playoffs 6 times, but have not been sucsessful. So, dont get too excited about your about your "sustained success". Your track record is no better than ours in that department. Regular season, granted, you have had some good years recently, but if I remember correctly, and I think I do, we had 4 consecutive years in the playoffs recently. And dont get me started about the head to head record. As for the Collins contract. It was a back loaded contract with a 12 mil cap hit in year 3. We got the cap space we needed to sign some player, and it was understood that we would evaluate the player after year 2 and either renegotiate if he performed, or terminate the contract with only a 2mil hit at that point. Remember, Collins was signed when we still had Gannon and it looked like he was going to return to form. Then Gannon sustained that career ending injury. Collins stepped in, and now will become a free agent. I have no hard feelings about either his performance or the fact that he is leaving. Part of the game. As for Daunte, the deal is not in place as of this moment, but Mortenson seems to think it will get done. I for one do not see this as a bad move. We get the guy who can be mobile (hopefully recovered) in the pocket, taking our O line issues out of the mix, and can throw down field with reasonable accuracy. He knows the Moss tendancies, so they will connect well. I am concerned about his hands and the fumbles, and of course the injury. However, I do see this as an upgrade, and given the QB's on the market, I think we may get the best overall available player at the position if we get Daunte. Brees being a close second, but Brees is not the kind of QB that Al covets. Ramsey would have been a not so close third. Brooks and Harrington (if he were available) rounding out the top 5. Gonna be a fun FA season, now that the deal is done. I for one am looking forward to seeing what our two teams do, and of course, the head to head match up this season.
I didn't say we were great just that you were acting as if the Raiders have been the Raiders of the 60s throgh mid 80s and that's not the case. You have not come close to a winning record since 2002 while we went down then up then down again. You made it seem like Oak will rebound quickly well it's already been 4 years. I'm just not a duante fan, you guys have incredible weapons at WR so he'll put up great #s but he's nto a guy who I want leading my team in big moments and big games. His track record is very poor in those areas and that was playing w/ some of the best offensive talent the game has ever seen. We might as well be in the same division as we play just about every year.
I will take a take a younger stronger and more athletic Daunte than a washed up journeyman qb. You are so off on this one.
Sure if the money was equal I'd go w/ the younger guy but Daunte will want alot more $ therefore I'd take Kerry who despite not putting up great reg season #s has been to twice as many Championship games as Daunte and destroyed daunte head to head in one of them when Daunte clearly had the better team.
Take Dante. Enjoy him throwing, what is it, 5 plus picks a game? lol I'll take the guy that can protect the football and not make a lot of mistakes. Can't say that about Dante last year. :breakdance:
