Eifert was not best value nor BPA at 13th. Jets had full intentions of pulling the trigger on Trevon Austin but the Rams jump us. Iszik knows damn well we need Offense, but sticking to the plan is what makes him great. We are not going to over reach with the first pick like we did last year with the second pick. Best RB, QB, and some damned good OL are still available as well as TEs. Good for Iszik, do whats right
Neither was Richardson. And we "needed" Eifert a helluva lot more than we need Richardson. If they get Ertz then it will be ok, otherwise Idzik's strategy failed.
Didn't everyone say that the strength of this draft is the depth. At 13 we could've gotten a TE but why use 13 on an offensive player that doesn't have that wow factor like Austin. Instead we secured our DL does anyone realize how dangerous it can be with cope,Ellis, wilk,Richardson just being moved around and with Rex Ryan's schemes? The depth of this draft is what allowed us to make this move. Still 6 more rounds to secure our offense and maybe get another safety
Right on, after watching those young girls in Jets jerseys last night booo the first pick, without having a freaking clue why, simply because idiot jet fans believe booing is a popular and cool thing to do. God help us with some of these whinning, immature and forever unhappy folks that want the sexy pick and then bitch about it when it doesn't pan out. You just dont see Eagles, Raiders, Steelers, you name it NFL fans act as stupid as some of these so called Jets fans. There is where the real circus is,
The Giants comp doesn't apply because the Giants drafted pass rusher year after year in a QB driven league. Not tackles in a 3-4 defense which revolves around LB'r play! Sent from my ADR6400L using Tapatalk 2
He's six feet, 200 pounds. His size and strength are listed as assets on just about everyone's draft board. You really are clueless.
But do we really run a 3-4? I think people are forgetting that we signed Barnes and Davis is now starting.
It's quite possible that Rex will be able to run a defense that allows all of our D line talent to be maximized/on the field together. But that still doesn't mean this situation compares to the Giants - they used their 1sts to draft pass rushers every year. This is apples and oranges as far as comparisons go. So the answer was to reach for a QB or TE at 13 instead of taking the BPA? I just don't see what people are complaining about. Would people have rather that we took Tyler Eifert instead of Richardson? I remember another Notre Dame TE who went up high to the Jets once upon a time because they thought they needed more offensive weapons after a few crappy offenses in a row.
Nope, reaching for any QB in the first round would've been idiotic. Taking Warmack at 9 would not have been a reach and would've addressed a position of definite need. Taking Jones at 13 was the better choice, IMO. We'll see who was right in a few years...
Warmack and Eifert makes the Jets a better team than Milliner and Richardson IMO, and neither one is a reach I don't care if Eifert when in the 20s, the guy will be a friggin stud would've provided leadership this team desperately needs. Richardson is an undersized DL and can't rush the QB, I don't see why he makes sense when we have coples and wilkerson.
This is something people never seem to understand. Just because our base defense is 3-4, doesn't mean we always run a 3-4. The Jets CONSTANTLY change up what defense they use. We are always changing it up during a game to screw with offenses (And it works) using the 3-4, 4-3, 5-3, 4-6, etc. For some teams, a base defense is the defense they will run 80% or greater. For the Jets, it's just the defense most likely to be run, but it might be half the time or less.
i like his talent, not sure about the need. should have went olb or s imo. if i get what you are saying, it's alright that the jets spent a 1st rd pick on a part time player.
watch we turn around and trade wilkerson for an offensive player and richardson takes his place.... jkjkjk
Yes. And Richardson now gives us real firepower when Rex wants to deploy the ....ummm wait....was that defense Buddy Ryan invented, and Rex still uses....oh, right the 46. Barnes...speedy.Davis...speedy Harris...Solid, Coples,Wilkerson,Ellis,Richardson...pretty tough front.
Who cares how loaded the front line is when all the other team has to do is pass to a TE or run to the outside.
You have no idea what your talking about....Richardson's speed is one of the major reasons why the Jets drafted him. Anyone that is 6'2 and weighs nearly 300LB while running under 5 in the 40. Read up first before making blanket statements: "He set several career bests in 2012 with 75 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss and 4.0 sacks. Richardson also had three forced fumbles, a blocked kick and a 60-yard fumble return" 3/08/2013 - 2013 Missouri Pro Day: The Rams had a six-person contingent on hand, headed by college scouting director Taylor Morton and assistant head coach Dave McGinnis. Also there for St. Louis were assistant defensive line coach Clyde Simmons and assistant linebackers coach Joe Bowden, an obvious sign of the team's interest in Richardson and linebacker Zaviar Gooden. But back to Richardson. When asked if Dogra was mad at him, a grinning Richardson replied: "He's all right. We talked it over." Richardson explained that some NFL teams had asked him to perform the shuttle and 3-cone drills. "And I did it," Richardson said. "Nothing to hide. Nothing at all." In his two 40-yard dashes, Richardson's times ranged from 4.71 seconds to 4.82, which is really moving for someone a couple Quarter Pounders shy of 300 pounds. After running a respectable 5.02 at the Combine, Richardson was happy with his improvement. "Yeah. Big time," said Richardson, who played at Gateway Tech High. "I had to change that ???5' off my record." - Jim Thomas, St. Louis Post-Dispatch
For the people saying we should have taken a TE, this reminds me of the "We want Sapp" debacle only we did the right thing this time.
