Umm... Harris plays ILB, a role completely different from Woodley. Besides, I'll take Harris gladly. Besides won't we have a chance to sign him since Pittsburgh doesent look like they'll keep him?

Harris great, but I'd rather have Woodley and a competent ILB than Harris and a competent OLB (B.Thomas)

If we get Oher, his little whitey brother will have to lead the Jets out of the tunnel, I do not want that.

I say re-sign David Harris and draft our own Lamar Woodley.

I think Akeem Ayers is a good Lamar Woodley of the Jets.

Why are people having so much trouble understanding this thread? I'm sure the OP knows they don't play the same position, he's asking if it's worth bringing in Woodley as a UFA if it means that we won't have the money to resign David Harris. It's not a hypothetical BS thread like 90% of the other nonsense people post on this board.

As for the actual topic, I go Woodley over Harris. I love having Harris back there, but if the Jets don't obtain a top notch passrushing OLB then they'll never be a great 34 defense. They can scheme and plan anything they want, but without that playmaking OLB they won't get consistent pressure without bringing tons of heat. Plus, it's a lot easier to get a guy who can play ILB at a high level than at OLB.

Yeah lol but I think that should be the plan of action. Harris is a solid 3-4 ILB and while these guys aren't necessarily "difficult" to find we have a very good player at the position.

Wouldn't you want the guy who already knows the system?

I LOVE Harris, but the passrush is the achilles' heel of this defense. We NEED passrushers, and I'd probably go with Woodley in this scenario.

Highly unlikely this happens, though. I see Harris in a NYJ uniform for a long time, which I'm quite happy with.

If Woodley ends up being a RFA and Pitt puts "only" the first round tender on him...do you consider signing him to an offer sheet?

a first rounder AND a ton of money will be asking too much, imo ... id rather take my shot at drafting an OLB and keeping harris in this scenario

Well I think there's a good chance Woodley and Harris will be RFA. Idk anything about the negotiations of the CBA but I'm assuming the owners will want to keep some sort of RFA clause. It's a business and it would suck for Harris but we could easily throw the 1 and 3 tag on him to clear up cap room for other guys while still giving us the flexibility of adding guys to the team.

Of course, this is all assuming the Steelers would be willing to trade Woodley which I don't believe.

If somehow we were to lose Cromartie in FA, I would absolutely take that money and go after Woodley no doubt about it, he's the missing piece to this defense, other than reviving the front 7

true, they will want to keep some sort of RFA, but i think that drops to 3 years or less or service ... if they want to keep the franchise tag, i think theyre going to have to concede a bit on the RFA front
