We haven't see the starting defense play with our best d-lineman yet. Once Wilk is in there things will change quite a bit.

Good point. I definitely think Burris showed promise. I've been very disappointed in Williams. He may be one of those CBs who is a ballhawk and has good hands, but can't cover for shit.

Oh HELL NO to Cro. No offense, but that's the worst idea I've seen posited in a while.

I don't, but even if we do, it was too much to pay him.

I don't think we'll be "screwed." If need be, Bowles will play less nickle and will have Skrine at the #2 spot. Burris has showed a lot of potential. He could see the field earlier than expected. Williams has been very disappointing, but hopefully he'll create enough TOs to compensate for his coverage deficiencies.

I hear ya on that for sure but to me what I saw last year and this preseason so far this defense will be a solid D but won't win us games. As has been the case for several years under multiple coaches they can't get off the field when they need to. Teams put up LONG drives that wear them out

Burris has shown some really good things but he needs to learn to locate the ball. IF he can figure that part out he could be a good player for us. Many corners never get that part down and fade away into the abyss.

He's experienced, he knows the system and he played well after the first month or so of the season. Lots of fans are reluctant to change their mind on a player once they've initially made up their mind, and he was condemned in the court of public opinion after those first couple games. If you go back and watch the games, you'll see that his receivers barely made a peep over the bulk of the latter part of the season, which is a huge reason why the defense started to suffocate people and we went on that winning streak.

My big worries about the D are the second CB spot.

    The Nose tackle position.

OLB, a lot of inexperience there.

I think he's got a chance to be good but you can still see the big mistakes he makes. Probably not ready at this point.

I'm glad people are talking about Burris because the dude has some cover skills. He has some length to him, which we are really lacking.

The defense is definitely not making me excit ed right now, but how many times last year did we run a basic 3-4 alignment? In pre-season that's all you show. Plus, our best player hasn't played yet.

I'm concerned about our OLBs. Jenkins has showed some promise, but he is over pursuing like crazy and that is the whole
reason why Richardson had to move to OLB last season.

The problem is that even if what you say is true, if memory serves me correctly, just about every season he played for the Jets, he was abysmal the first month or so and then got better. This team can't afford to dig any holes the first month. Cro is ancient history and not the future. I'd rather they go with one of the youngsters. Burris has shown a lot. If they don't think it would hurt his confidence, I'd rather see him start than bring back Cro.

I don't think he's ready, either, but he's looked better than Williams in the 2 preseason games so far imo, and he's already close to being better than Cro. Even if he's not that good yet, he's big and physical (something Cro isn't).

Williams always gave up big plays and was a bad tackler he is not starting material but is a decent 3rd corner ... and a ball hawk.

  17. Let's keep in mind the first D has yet to give up a TD.

That said..it has been fair at best. This D seems to always perform like this preseason though. The vanilla scheme w. no game planning make it difficult.Unit has yet to be at full strength including Wilk for any period of time. The sooner they can get the OLB & CB depth charts settled, the better.

Remember that this units major strengths are toughness & aggression.Yes they are athletes but they are downhill athletes who need aggression to make plays & get into a flow. Toughness & aggression aren't words anybody would associate w/ preseason football.

When regular season rolls around Bowles will be unleashing all sorts of blitzes that take advantage of the athletic DL as well as the newly found speed at LB.That in & of itself will make things look alot better.

I'm a little worried about the Cincy game. No Sheldon that game and Mo's coming around a little slowly.

I'm not worried about Mo, just that he may not be quite ready. What's the delio with him? When is he is going full pads all out?

I think the overall depth at DL is good tho.

I just saw this on the Jets site. Favorable news and I'm already relieved...

"Mo & Co: The defensive line may have put together its best performance of camp, consistently generating pressure and swarming the backfield. Pro Bowler Muhammad Wilkerson[IMG] led the charge, almost intercepting a screen pass intended for Matt Forté[IMG] and registering a would-be sack on Ryan Fitzpatrick a couple plays later.

“He’s getting his legs underneath him, he’s getting used to the pads,” head coach Todd Bowles said of Wilkerson after practice. “He’s also getting used to the hitting, which he wasn’t used to before because he was just working out. As he gets used to that and his legs stay fresh, we’re moving him up little by little.”
