I would expect them to boo, but I know a lot of Sox fans enjoy baseball in general, and have a lot of respect for Jeter, so I think there will be a good amount of cheers mixed in as well.
Unless the hit drives in a crucial run, I don't think there will be too much booing. Maybe some polite applause and some mild booing, but more indifference than anything I would imagine. 2,000 is a personal milestone, but not much more than that. 3,000 would elicit much more of a response.
Honestly I hate the Sox, and a lot of their fans but many of them are knowledgeable and they do have some classy fans. I see them cheering Jeter in say his last year in baseball. If he gets 2,000 probably a mix of cheers and boo's. If he got 3,000 there I wouldnt be surprised if they cheer. All in all Sox fans and Yankee fans are very similar. If Ortiz was playing his last game as a Sox Id cheer even though hes killed us. If it was Manny Id still boo, the guy is a punk.
I dont think the Sox would even put up an announcement that it was his 2000 hit. It would be up to the "knowledgable" fans to know that it was.
Im ashamed to say i missed the game the first this season... I was really tired and slept... I missed lost aswell but i recorded it to see it tomorrow... I went to the game thread and only seen that he had one hit... So i guess jeter is one hit away from 2000... And he will probably be the only yankee with 3000 hits unbelievable...
What a play to end the game! 2000 will have to wait another night but he had a big RBI double and made a spectacular play to end the game keeping the potential tying run off 1B.
Derek Jeter is probably the best all-around player that the Yankees have had since Mickey Mantle's reign from the mid 50's to early 60's. In terms of baseball as a whole he ranks up there with Joe Morgan, Rickey Henderson, Mike Schmidt and Alex Rodriguez for sustained 2-way excellence over the course of his career. That said, he's 31 now and needs to have another 6 or 7 excellent seasons to go down with the all-time greats. I'm a lifelong Met's fan who for reasons to complicated to explain easily had a Saturday plan ticket at Yankee stadium from 1993 to 2000. One of the few things that made that arrangement bearable was the pleasure of watching Jeter play.
Just another notch on the hall of Fame belt for Jeter, I know yankee fans appreciate him but hopefully fans around baseball can put their jealousy aside and appreciate what they have seen and hopefully will continue to see from #2.
Yanks 10 games over 500 yeah boyeeeee.... And jeter continues to excel... What a surprise... Melky cabrera, could we possibly see gary's replacement next year? Probably so...
I'll make fun of Melky all day long... he's nothing. He hits for average, that's about his only plus. He is a minus defender with no position and he has no power... hardly a top prospect or future star. No way he takes Shefs spot... he might find an everyday role on the Drays or Marlins but he's never going to be an everyday starter on the NYY... wake up guys.
How is he a minus defender? A couple of mistakes in his first 10 major league games damn him for his entire career? He's been very good defensively for the past few weeks, and he was a good defender his entire minor league career.
So we should ignore his first ten games but pay attention to the past few weeks. I get it. He's certainly no Lastings Milledge He is average at best... your boys here are handing him the right field position for the long haul... you comfortable with that?
