The number for this season look pretty similar but overall it's a difficult comparrison to make because Melkey's sample is so small in the majors and those stats only show part of the comparrison (offense). I'm not going to front and act like I've seen a lot of Melkey throughout his career because that's obviously not true, I'm also not one who likes to quote scouting reports as gospel... but from what I've seen of this kid I'm not really too impressed and certainly not impressed enough to think he'll find an everyday role in George's circus replacing the likes of Gary Sheffield. I think he's a fourth outfielder at best in the Bronx and is more likely to be traded to a team that will play him everyday.
This is Sheffields contract year, and if the healing doesnt go well, he will probably need surgery sometime in June, putting him out until September; and that doesnt earn you a $13 million option. Damn... Jeter's been out for a couple of day's now, but the yankees still are winning... Jeter will be back and matsui said ready to play in august... Scheff might be out a longer than expected... But MELKY CABRERA is doing a outstanding job for the yankees... Today the yankess defeat the redsux, a spectacular catch in the outfield by MELKY CABRERA stealing a HR and the game for the yanks... Yanks are 1.5 games ahead in first place.

baseball (and maybe all sports) needs to add a player of the year award aside from the MVP this way, jeter can get his MVP, and ortiz or santana or whomever can get his POY i wish all sports had this, it would cut down on the end of the year award arguments
